A message from the Chair, Robert P. Edwards, MD: Dear Colleagues: A special note to mark a career milestoneDr. Steve Caritis is now celebrating his 50th year at Magee. Amazingly he looks almost the same! We sincerely appreciate ALL you’ve done with your MANY years of dedication. Congratulations, Steve, on this very rare milestone!

The past few months have brought many firsts for us all and has also prevented us from enjoying many things that we took for granted before COVID-19. This month that included the annual awards and graduation dinner. We struggled to come up with an alternative celebration among the constant changes in state restrictions (red to yellow to green). Then one of our current faculty, Dr. Erin Rhinehart, residency class of 2017, suggested that we conduct a graduation ceremony in the... lobby of the hospital with onlookers watching from the balconies - BINGO! So with much coordination from the hospital administration, especially Dr. Gabey Gosman, we were able to accommodate this and included other MWH training programs. Please take a few minutes to share in the joy of our MWH Class of 2020 celebration in what we hope will become a new tradition that complements the traditional annual dinner celebration. See more

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences would like to officially announce the SNC Endowed Obstetrical Research Fund for Magee Ob/GYN Residents and MFM Fellows. Dr. Steve Caritis, current faculty member and 1973 residency alumni, has donated funding to support obstetrical research for our trainees. The intent of this funding is to initiate a more meaningful research experience by trainees with faculty mentorship. Funding is only for research exp...enses and will not be used for travel, classes, or books. The Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division leadership will have oversight over the annual distribution of funding. The program will start in 2021 with an anticipated annual distribution of $25,000. Our hope is that other alumni will contribute to the fund corpus.
