We encourage everyone to vote "no" on the Marsy's Law amendment. Pennsylvania already has a Crime Victims Act, to which our local Assistant District Attorneys, ...Victim’s Advocates, Judges and Police Officers work diligently to protect the interests of victims throughout the course of criminal proceedings. Victims are typically served with subpoenas or are notified about preliminary hearings and trials. Victims already have the right to attend criminal proceedings and to address judges prior to sentencing. Failures in the existing system can be corrected without changing the state constitution in nearly irreversible fashion. The proposed constitutional amendment will have the following negative impacts: -Prevent a falsely accused person from obtaining evidence (discovery) which may prove his or her innocence; -Require victims to have notice for and be present during bail hearings, regardless of whether or not the crime is violent in nature. Many bail hearings are held in the middle of the night after a person is arrested. The purpose of bail is to protect the community and ensure that a person will appear in court. Judges already use risk assessment tools to fashion bail on each case. The mandatory notice provisions will cause already overworked police officers and government employees to spend their valuable time calling crime victims, rather than patrolling our streets or tending to more critical tasks. -Lead to a less efficient justice system, as there will be numerous postponements of cases due to compliance issues. We spend approximately $35,000 to incarcerate an individual for one year in PA. For each extra week a person spends in jail, it costs our taxpayers roughly $673. -Increase the burden on taxpayers to maintain strict compliance, and fend off impending legal challenges to the constitutionality of the amendment. On top of that, the proponents of this bill have failed to adequately address funding concerns, or explain how the responsibilities will be delegated amongst different government agencies. Vote "no" on the ballot question. If you want to help crime victims, urge your local representatives to provide greater funding for victim advocate groups.

Its very easy and almost common practice in this system to point the finger at other players when it comes to facts, statistics and racial disparities. Whether ...we are talking about over-charging, mass incarceration, strained relationships between law enforcement and communities, misguided resources for treatment or an insufficient number of diversionary programs, the first real step is for those with the authority to single handily correct the problem, to simply acknowledge that the problem exist and then show up to the table where the conversations are taking place and provide a real resolution. The issue however may be that one may or may not accept such disparities as a real problem. In the current system where we treat individuals as docket numbers instead of real human beings, it becomes easy to not be moved or bothered by the fact that only 24 cases out of 2800 have been sent back to juvenile court from adult court or that teenagers of color of 20x more likely to be charged as adults compared to their white counterparts. The District Attorneys office has full discretion on which cases stay in adult court and which cases are transferred back to juvenile court. Statistics are colorblind and justice should be too. If an injustice is brought to light with data and other empirical evidence to support the claim, I can assure you, as your District Attorney, we will take steps together to acknowledge, address and correct the problem. The District Attorney must administer justice not just for some people, but for ALL people. #TJFORDA #LetsGo #JusticeForAll #NoExceptions

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

There will be nights that you cry yourself to sleep- only you can decide if those tears will clear away the darkness or if you will allow them to cause your eyes to swell shut. I caution, if you choose the latter, you may miss the rainbow.

Natalie Snyder Law 30.03.2019

May 18 isn't host to any holiday. A quick search reveals there aren't many "this day in history" moments for today. So we will keep it nice and simple... PLEA...SE DON'T DRINK & DRIVE! Now for the details and the "legal speak", so to speak... The Mt. Lebanon DUI Task Force will be putting out extra patrols this weekend to deter, detect, and apprehend impaired drivers. Officers in several different participating South Hills communities will focus on finding drivers who are under the influence while operating a vehicle and arresting them. They will be using both marked and unmarked police vehicles... but fear not, the view from the back seat behind the cage looks the same in all of them!!! If you are going to partake, please be responsible and plan ahead. The life (and $10,000) you save may be your own. PLEASE LIKE, SHARE, AND DO NOT DRIVE IMPAIRED!
