"The CSA is a great opportunity for artists to try out ideas that need a big canvas, or jump forward in scale. There is structural support and backbone in place for you to take this baby idea and just run with it, and maybe go further with it than you could on your own." - Philip Wesley Gates To learn more about the CSA and begin the application process, visit this link: https://newhazletttheater.org/csa/apply/... There’s still plenty of time to apply for the 2021/2022 CSA Season! The New Hazlett Theater invites emerging and mid-career performing artists from the Western Pennsylvania region to submit project proposals in theater, dance, music, spoken word, or multi-disciplinary performance for inclusion in the upcoming CSA performance series. We are interested in proposals for new work or work that is currently in development. Thank you for your generous support during #GiveBigPittsburgh! Over 50 donors helped us raise over $3,000 in one day to support our commitment to our artists and keeping their innovative spark alive. #NewHazlett #NewHazlettTheater #PerformanceArt #KeepTheSparkAlive

This season’s CSA will be presented virtually on Crowdcast. The performances are recorded, followed by a live Q&A with each artistic team. Because we’re initially presenting this work virtually, we’re doing things a little differently. Normally, we’d ask you to subscribe to our season by purchasing a $100 subscription ticket. This season will instead be supported with pay-as-you-like donations. Choose your preferred dates for all five CSA performances here: https://newhazletttheater.org/pay-as-you-like/

We’re committed to our artists and our audiences, and are proud to be able to bring you another season of our Community Supported Art performance series! This year, because we’re initially presenting this work virtually, we’re doing things a little differently. Normally, we’d invite you to subscribe to our season by purchasing a $100 subscription ticket. We’re hoping that each CSA audience member considers a donation to the New Hazlett for the same amount, although donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. The arts and the artists themselves are especially challenged today. Your donation helps us continue to provide the Community support that so many artists in our city rely on. Thank you! https://newhazletttheater.org/csa/

Grant awardees include: New Hazlett Theater and Monteze Freeland: $20,000 for the artist’s residency at the New Hazlett Theater, where he will develop and produce his musical comedy, Kalopsia, which focuses on mental health in the Black community. https://nextpittsburgh.com//advancing-black-arts-in-pitts/

There is still time to give big today! There is still time to make a donation to us and any of the great participating nonprofit organizations in the Pittsburgh community. All giving will end at 11:59PM. Nothing’s off the table.... No idea is too crazy. Great art can come from that. https://www.givebigpittsburgh.com/organ/new-hazlett-theater

Here are some great reasons to apply from CSA artists Gil Texiera, Brittney Chantele, and Philip Gates. To our dedicated audiences, supporters, and artists - The past several months have been a challenge for all of us. We've had to conquer loneliness, master new technologies, and cling to hope, all in service to the long-term greater good. Thank you so much for your ongoing support! Some Businesses Have Been Impacted More Than Others... Small, independent venues were the first to close and will likely be among the last to re-open. Many of the state’s performing arts spaces, non-profit organizations like the New Hazlett Theater, as well as for-profit music venues remain closed. Some may never reopen Pittsburgh alone has already lost brillobox and The Rex for good. You Can Help Us #SavePAVenues A national campaign to #SaveOurStages garnered a lot of attention for our industry. Recently, PA State Representative Jake Wheatley, D-Hill District, introduced the PA Save Our Stages Act (HB2894): https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/billInfo/billInfo.cfm. To learn about the bill and how COVID-19 has impacted venues like ours, read this recent article in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: https://triblive.com//proposed-bill-would-provide-relief-/ You can show your support and help to #SavePAVenues by signing the petition below and contacting your legislators to tell them to support HB2894 in just a few clicks!
