Our friends at RealTime Interventions are excited to bring you The Birth of Paper, a new play by Molly Rice & directed by Rusty Thelin, June 24th through June 29th, 2021. In August 2020, an explosion in the port of Beirut, Lebanon led to massive changes in the lives of Beirut’s inhabitants: government implosion, economic freefall, and city-wide revolution. RealTime’s new show The Birth of Paper serves as a response to Beirut's humanitarian crisis and a love letter to the postal service --and to paper-- as an ancient, global technology of connection. The show, performed live from Beirut, connects its audience across oceans in real time. Tickets are on sale at posttheatrical.org/the-birth-of-paper.

The Greater Pittsburgh Festival of Books and Pittsburgh Cares hosted a volunteer event on June 8 in Millvale Riverfront Park, transforming old newspaper boxes into Little Libraries that will be placed "around Pittsburgh to promote literacy and encourage a love for reading." I love the Little Libraries. We have one in our neighborhood, said Bethany Ruhe, who works for the Festival of Books. One of the biggest missions of the festival is to promote a lifelong love of literacy and reading, and I thought that this really tied in with the festival's mission, in a really great way.

Shout out to the trade laborers who have pushed through unprecedented work site and supply chain issues in 2020. Thanks to the perseverance of so many people, phase 2 of the Millvale Food + Energy Hub renovation project is nearing completion. This expansion will allow the Good Food Project from 412 Food Rescue and Sprezzatura to significantly increase their mission to feed our communities. ADA accessible upgrades will allow equitable access to the lower level amenities including a flexible clean energy workforce training and private conference center. Made possible by Allegheny County Economic Development CDBG and the Henry L. Hillman Foundation.
