Milling and Paving Work on West Chester Pike The milling and paving of West Chester Pike (in the location of the PennDOT widening project) is scheduled to begin on Sunday night, April 18, 2021. PennDOT has authorized overnight work to take place between 8:00pm and 6:00am for approximately 2 weeks. The location of the milling and paving is between Ellis Avenue and the Newtown Square Shopping Center (ACME) driveway. This will include line painting work, which will identify th...e new lane configurations in the area. Widening work, storm sewer work and traffic signal modifications have already taken place, and once the new lane configurations are completed and signal programming changes will go into effect. PennDOT's intention in this project is to help alleviate the traffic congestion often experienced at the intersection of West Chester Pike (Route 3) and Newtown Street Road (Route 252). Please be aware that this milling and paving work will be taking place overnight. When travelling through the work zone be extremely careful, and follow any instructions given by those working there. Following the completion of the road improvements, the West Chester Pike medians will be replanted.

Many well-intentioned people place things into recycling in the days after Christmas which cannot be recycled and can contaminate the good material. 11/30/20 Update on Newtown Township Leaf Collection 2020 Newtown Township Public Works will not be collecting leaves today (Monday, November 30, 2020) due to the heavy rain and wind anticipated throughout the day. Streets scheduled for collection today were: Newtown Road (north of St Davids Circle), St Davids Road, Saw Mill Road and Goshen Road (east of Route 252). These roads all require the use of flaggers to get motorists past the collection areas, and it is too dangero...us to do this in the rain. In addition, the collection of leaves in heavy rain and wind is difficult even on a side-street with little traffic. Public Works staff will instead spend the day clearing stormwater inlets of blockages caused by leaves which may have been placed in the street. Leaf collection will resume ON SCHEDULE for the remainder of the week, with Monday's streets to be collected throughout the week as possible by working additional hours each day.

HOLIDAY RECYCLING # (Thursday, December 24th in zone #2). Recycling was collected on-time last week in Zone #1, even though there had been a snow storm the two days before. The recycling crews worked hard to get through the snow and cold and successfully collected everywhere in Zone #1. The bad news is that (in true "2020 fashion") December this year is a rare month with 5 Thursdays in it. That means that there... will be NO RECYCLING COLLECTION on New Year's Eve (December 31st). Recycling collections take place in Zone #1 on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month and recycling collections take place in Zone #2 on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. In the few instances where there is a 5th Thursday in a month that Thursday is skipped so that residents can keep on their 1st and 3rd (or) 2nd and 4th Thursdays schedule. After Christmas, the next recycling collections will be: Thursday, January 7, 2021 (Zone #1) Thursday, January 14, 2021 (Zone #2) They start collecting at 7:00 am sharp, so have your material out the night before or early in the morning before 7:00 am. See the Public Works Recycling page for more information about residential recycling in Newtown Township.
