As 2020 winds down, we'd like to wish everyone a great and safe new year! We also wanted to look back at some of the many incidents our station responded to this past year.

Station 17 is ready for the holidays!

If you’ve ever wanted to see what firefighters see on calls, helmet can footage is a great way to do that. Here is some from one of our members that was recorded Monday afternoon while on a tractor trailer fire. This incident was a good reminder for our members on the dangers that come with tractor trailers. This truck was not placarded, indicating that there were no hazardous material present. However, once the back of the truck was opened, firefighters found two large conta...iners of lubricant. It was also discovered later that there was also magnesium oxide in the front of the trailer, which is highly reactive to water when burning. Had the fire started in the front of the trailer instead of the back, this incident would have been very different. Despite the materials present, the truck did not have to be placarded due to the mixed load present, with none of the materials exceeding 999 pounds/gallons, per DOT regulations. See more

It has been decided by our members last night to hold the in person part of our gun raffle on November 14th!! This decision does come with some rules though.. -anyone entering the building will need to sign a waiver clearing the fire company from any liability in the event that someone would become sick. -temperatures will be taken at the entrance. Anyone running a temperature will not be allowed inside. -the wearing of masks while in line to enter and while not consuming e...ither food or drinks is highly encouraged. -any and all outside drink containers are prohibited from making their way into the building. You may be asked upon entrance to open any bags/purses to ensure that you do not have any outside alcoholic beverages on you. -please have your ticket (unless purchasing at the door) and your photo ID ready at the door. We will be carding everyone who comes through the door no matter how old or young you appear to be. ***If you are not feeling well or have been around anyone who has not been feeling well around the time of the event, or if you are not willing to abide by any and all rules the company has and will put in place, we ask that you please do not come to the event. We are considering ourselves very lucky to even be considering hosting this event this year let alone to actually holding it, and if we want these gun raffles to occur in the future as they have in the past when we need everyone to play by this year’s special rules.***

Tomorrow night, (Monday September 27) we will be conducting a training drill with some of our neighboring fire companies at Scenic Drive off of Fishing Creek Road beginning at approximately 6pm. Please avoid Fishing Creek Road between Clintondale Hill and Heltman Road if at all possible between 6 and 8 tomorrow night. There will be a number of apparatus traveling and staged along this road.
