We recently had the pleasure of assisting our customer in restoring their brand new 2019 Nissan Rogue to pre-loss condition after a package truck impacted their vehicle while it was parked. Their was cosmetic, mechanical, and structural damage. The customer decided to file a claim with their own insurance company assuming they would utilize brand new parts from Nissan and make the at fault party pay for everything. The insurance company first tried to imply that the vehicl...e must be repaired at an in network shop (NOT TRUE). Next their insurance company said they would only pay for the cheapest parts available and that the customer was not covered for brand new Nissan parts. Their vehicle only had 3945 miles on it and the cheapest parts would void her warranty. The cheapest parts would also compromise the safety system engineered for this vehicle. North Star Automotive took the time to gather enough information and present the facts to the customer's insurance company. The insurance company agreed to pay for all brand new parts from Nissan for this repair. If the customer had chosen to go the in-network repair facility dictated by the insurance company that shop would have installed the cheapest parts available because they view the insurance company as the customer. It was our pleasure to restore this 2014 Ford Explorer to it's pre-loss condition after a front end collision. In an attempt to save money for the insurance company the insurance recommended body shop wanted to replace mechanical components with junk yard parts and body parts with cheap imitation parts not made by Ford. This vehicle has advanced driver assist systems which include lane departure and park assist. The use of any parts other than new Ford parts would not have... restored this vehicle to it's pre-loss condition. The insurance recommended shop also failed to determine that the vehicle was not safe to drive or to write for a measurement of the vehicle structure. Based on a recommendation from a past guest the vehicle was brought to us and left with in our care after our licensed appraisers determined the vehicle was not safe to drive. We take pride in the opportunity to apply our knowledge of collision repair and advocate for safe and proper repairs. Even if a vehicle does not appear to have structural movement based on a visual inspection we believe every vehicle involved in a collision should have it's structure measured to ensure the vehicle is safe and ready to protect it's occupants in the event in a future collision. After measuring the vehicle with we found the structure of this vehicle to be out of manufacturer specification. With proper documentation we found the cheaper parts the insurance company insisted were of like, kind, and quality to be insufficient. We advocated for the our guest and repaired this vehicle back to manufacturer specifications using all brand new parts from Ford at no additional cost to the vehicle owner. After a collision the insurance company may ask you you to submit photos through an app or email to obtain an estimate from them. While this process may be convenient the estimates are always inaccurate. They also lead to confusion about actual cost and time to complete the necessary repairs.
