Leadership GLUE: Tip #7 [Leadership EQ] When emotions fire up, either yours or one of your team members, it’s easy to view the emotion from the perspective of something’s bad or wrong with the circumstance or situation.... But, if you pause, and look at emotions as data points, you’ll begin to see that fiery emotions are identifying a needusually a deep emotional need that got triggered by a circumstance or event. The triggering event is an opportunity to dig deeperto explore and evaluate the root cause of an unmet need. Because we are human beings doing our best in the workplace, these emotions signal a fear or need that relates to much earlier imprinted human needs like: Am I good enough? Will I make the grade? Am I worthy of this position?" Embracing emotions, rather than suppressing them, gives us insight into ourselves and those we lead. As we embrace emotions, and the unexpressed underlying needs, we can humanize the workplace and join the movement to create a new way of working. Leadership GLUE: Tip #5 [Review UX] I’ve been testing two applications for protecting passwords and I’ve learned a lot in the process. The two applications are 1Password and LastPass. What I’ve learned is a lesson for all Owner-Led Businesses to apply to their offers.... #1: Make your product super easy to install and use. With 1Password I had a difficult time going through the learning curve, it was clunky and didn’t perform as promised. With LastPass, I was able to get up to speed quickly, the interface was graphic, and I was immediately using the platform and excited to get my passwords protected. #2: Make feedback easy to give and circle back to new customers. I never heard from LastPass but one of the 1Password team reached out to me on LinkedIn and connected with me. I was impressed by the personalization and that I wasn’t just being helped by an automated, non caring message. The lesson here is to show you careif you do. #3: Give yourself some time with a new user experience. I was on deadline, in a rush and didn't have time to watch videos or read tutorials. And my expectations were that I would be able to pick this up, easy peasy. Lesson here for Owner-Led Businesses is not to over-promise and under-deliver. Both promised easy useonly one delivered according to my criteria. Most of the time I don’t do this kind of simultaneous test or give a review. But, in this case there was a clear winner for me. I gave feedback to both and I hope they received it in the spirit with which it was given.
