North Strabane Township Fire Department 30.06.2021

5/17/21 - House Fire - Nottingham Township North Strabane Firefighters along with Valley Inn, Finleyville and Bentleyville responded to the 3700 block of Route 136 in Nottingham Township this morning for a house on fire. North Strabane units arrived and performed suppression and extensive overhaul operations. Units operated for about 4 1/2 hours. The Charlie platoon working.

5/16/21 - Emergency Vehicle Operations Course A number of members completed the emergency vehicle operations course (EVOC). This course teaches vehicle drivers how to navigate obstacles while driving an emergency vehicle. Thanks to the The Meadows Racetrack & Casino for use of the parking lot!

For training this week members had to force a door then locate three SCBA (breathing apparatus) and deactivate the alarm built in to each pack. Every year North Strabane Firefighters complete medical physicals then a physical agility test. The medical physical is the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard 1582 outlines the requirements of the physical. This includes blood work, chest x-ray, respiratory test, auditory test and general examination. Once members complete the medical, the annual physical test is conducted. The agility includes eight stations; charged hose drag, hose pack movement and tube crawl, ladder throw and climb, Keiser sled, weight shuttle, window jump, sled pull and manikin drag.

5/14/21 - Vehicle Fire - North Strabane Members responded to the 46 mile marker on Interstate 79 for a passenger vehicle fire. Crews remained on scene for 45 minutes. No injuries.

Members responded to two different vehicle fires this weekend. 5/22/21 - Interstate 79, North Strabane Members responded to Interstate 79 at the 43 mile marker (Houston Exit) south bound for reports of a vehicle on fire. Engine 48 and Tanker 48 arrived to find a passenger vehicle with an engine compartment fire. One hand line was put in service for suppression. The interstate was restricted to one lane for about 20 minutes until crews cleared.... 5/23/21 - Chesnic Drive, North Strabane Members responded to Chesnic drive for a passenger vehicle on fire in a driveway. Chief 482 arrived to find the home owner extinguished the majority and contained the fire from spreading further in the vehicle or into the residence. Chief 481 and Engine 481 arrived and stretched the bumper line. Crews cleared in about 15 minutes.

10/24/20 - Annual Department Fall Structure Burn Class This past Saturday 30 members from North Strabane and 7 from Canonsburg gathered for the annual department fall burn class. Washington County Commissioners presented CARES act money to Washington county career fire departments. Fire Chiefs from Peters, North Strabane, South Strabane and City of Washington attended to accept the funds.

Last evening, North Strabane’s Rapid Intervention Team was requested into Mt. Pleasant Township for a house fire with entrapment. Updates while responding were the occupant was extricated by first arriving fire units. Squad 48 arrived and established RIT and deployed ground ladders. North Strabane Firefighters were released after about 30 minutes.

Fire Prevention Week 2020 - Fire in the Oven What do you do if there is a fire inside the oven? 1. If the fire is contained inside the oven DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR, opening the door can introduce more oxygen and cause the fire to become bigger. If safe and able, oven off and any burners that are lit on top.... 2. DO NOT PUT WATER ON ANYTHING. Water on grease can any fire to become bigger. 3. Get out and Call 911. The fire department can ensure the fire is confined to the stove with no extension of fire.

***Electrical Interruption*** Today, October 8, 2020, there will be an emergency power outage to replace a broken pole caused by an automobile accident. The outage will affect customers in the vicinity of Walker Rd, Fulton Rd, Willow St, Winfield St, Longview Dr and MacMillan Dr in Canonsburg, PA. Customers will experience a service interruption from approximately 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Crews arrived and completed the water supply, assisted with suppression and extensive over haul. NST members operated for three hours before returning to service. B Platoon working.

Today has been a busy day for North Strabane Members. -Six members of the water rescue team traveled to Oil City with boats 48 1 and 2 and participated in a regional boat operations training. -Three members began the final training session of their basic firefighting training. This class consists of drills today followed by a structural burn class with live fire tomorrow. ... -Multiple members assisted with new hire candidate testing for the career staff. All of this was in the midst of 5 calls during the daylight shift which included two possible fires in canonsburg, a fire alarm in peters, an elevator rescue and a vehicle crash in the township.
