On Monday, Dawn Wooten, a nurse in ICE facility Irwin County Detention Center (ICDC), blew the whistle on widespread malpractice in the treatment of detained immigrants throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The report details unsafe, unsanitary conditions, a lack of testing and treatment for people detained who contracted COVID-19, and reproductive health violations against those in custody. We support and amplify calls for the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General to conduct a thorough investigation of ICDC. By taking this courageous step to protect her patients, Dawn Wooten represents the best of the nursing profession. We applaud her bravery in speaking out for her patients, and support efforts to protect the health and well-being of immigrants in custody. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-54160638
