Fort Mifflin is for...... dancing? Why yes indeed! Join us on Saturday for a real treat when @folkdanceclubkaleidoscope joins us all the way from Brooklyn for a special performance at 3 pm as part of our Eastern Front of WWII event. We'll also be dancing at the Hot Jazz Lawn Party, too. Just sayin.
WOOD you help us out on THURSDAY? We have a portable saw mill coming to mill some of this donated wood and need some help for the project to go smoothly. Contact the office at 215-685-4167 or [email protected] for details. Stay as long or as little as your schedule allows - we'll be working approximately 9 till 4. Are you a woodworker? Stay the whole day and we will share some of the results of this effort with you.
"Still" deciding whether or not to purchase tickets to Mud Island Hot Jazz Lawn Party? Price goes up at noon tomorrow. And by the way, you will be able to see (and take a photo with) an authentic moonshine still at the event! https://buff.ly/3s2dHQH
Ever wonder what was really going on around Fort Mifflin in 1921? High crimes, that's what. Check out this account of a robbery that took the weekly payroll of the ship building enterprise on adjacent Hog Island. The Mud Island Hot Jazz Lawn Party is way more fun than should be legal. Get your tickets now and beat the price increase coming this Friday! https://buff.ly/3s2dHQH

Springtime weekend coming right up! Enjoy the fresh air and three centuries of history right here! Bring your family, bring your dog and bring on a great time. See you at the Fort Saturday and Sunday from 10 till 4.
This Memorial Day please take a moment to honor those who fought and died in the service of our country. Many perished defending Fort Mifflin in 1777, their heroic acts even honored by the British.
It's going to be "the berries" at the Mud Island Hot Jazz Lawn Party and you have just one hot week to get your tickets at the swell price of just $35 for General Admission. That gets you transported back in time to 1921 with live music and dancing, vintage vehicles, awesome vintage vendors, roving entertainment, food trucks, and more fun than should be legal. Hurry up - we are headed straight to a sell out and we cannot guarantee any tickets will be available at the door. https://buff.ly/3oX1lJ6
It's teeny tiny turtle season! Look at this little guy giving you the side-eye.
Hey all you airplane spotters! Check out this cool shot of The Zero G 727-227. It's an oldie but a goodie - a 1976 model reconfigured from the original passenger jet into a freighter then to the zero-g platform. It is padded inside for research and joyride (!?!) excursions. It's the only plane certified to fly "passengers" on zero-g flights in the US. The jet flies in specified 100 mile long by 10 mile wide airspace reserved especially for it and away from commercial traffic.... Fancy a ride? Purchase your $6,700 ticket from Everts Air for Zero G and experience a flight consisting of about 15 zero-g parabolas - each lasting about 30 seconds and covering 10 miles. Passengers pull 1.8 g's during each climb before experiencing weightlessness over the top. Info and photo (taken Tuesday, May 18) courtesy of Robb Enright. Do you enjoy plane spotting? Ask for our Spotters Guide and Aviation brochure when you check in.
It's #TOOLSday. Park your axe properly. Image from Diary of an Early American Boy by Eric Sloane.
Mysteries from the winter woods.
It's #WildlifeWednesday and we have coyote tracks on the sea wall. There are two other sets of tracks along the same path so it appears we have a pack.
Here's a crazy idea for a crazy year. Has your wedding been impacted by the pandemic? Do you still want to tie the knot this year? It's not too late. We're here to help. Check out our #LoveWins micro wedding package!
Welcome to 2021! Huzzah! We are excited to offer some unique winter programming this season - including the rescheduled Fire Pit Festival, a series of workshops including hands-on learning opportunities and walks in the winter woods. Watch for the calendar specifics next week.
Take THAT 2020! Here's to a healthy, successful and fun 2021! Thanks john.hurst.96 for so many great photos this year. #newyear
Take advantage of a warm December weekend and #OptOutside at Fort Mifflin! Explore the High Battery, walk the top of the walls and enjoy some fresh air and free parking! Dogs on leash are always welcome. Oh, and if you ask nicely and donate $20 (cash please) we might let you fire the cannon. #weekend #thingstodoinphilly #nature #trails
Service dogs in training brought their human friends to the Fort this morning. #DYK that we're dog friendly? Bring your pup (on leash) to explore the grounds including the nature trail!
The Holiday Fire Pit Festival has been postponed due to the weather (new date will be announced in early January) but we are still collecting holiday cards to distribute to local Veterans through December 18. Drop off a card to share some holiday cheer with a Veteran and we will share a Fort Mifflin flag with you! Can’t get here in person to drop off? You can still mail a card to Fort Mifflin on the Delaware, Veteran Holiday Card Project, 1 Fort Mifflin Road, Philadelphia, PA 19153 and we will make sure it reaches a local Veteran. Thanks to our friends at Greater Philadelphia Area Veterans Chamber of Commerce for helping with this special effort! #Veterans #HolidayCheer
A hearty HIP HIP HUZZAH for our dear friend Don Johnson for an extraordinary donation of his time, talent, unmatched energy and enthusiasm for the spirit and the story of Fort Mifflin this year. Don's leadership and community building facilitated the construction of a causeway providing access to the mortar battery, rallied the troops for the Timeline March, hosted an immersive reenactor event, cleared debris off the wall, removed numerous logs from the tide gate plus so many more projects large and small. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
The mighty McFarland heading out.
Foggy morning excitement at the old fort today.
Holiday break is a great time for fun and games. What are you playing?
We have a winner! Skylar Olsen is the lucky recipient of 2 complimentary tickets to Haunted Holiday Open Investigation Evening! Skyler, check your email for details on how to redeem. This #GivingTuesday please consider being an advocate for Arts & Culture in the City of Philadelphia. The historic sites, vibrant arts organizations and performing artists that make up the fabric of the cultural community are central to the City's daily life and rhythms. They have enriched us all during this crazy year with creative programming on new platforms online and by utilizing unique outdoor settings (as we do at Fort Mifflin!) to bring live programming to you at a sa...fe social distance. The most recent restriction on our operations only extends the hardships of the year after emergency funding has been exhausted. Be an advocate for Fort Mifflin and the entire community of arts and culture organizations in Philadelphia by telling City Council to #SaveTheArts and provide ongoing funding to keep these organizations alive. City Council members are listed here https://buff.ly/3qqPLq7 clicking a photo will take you to a contact interface. See more
We just saw SIX bald eagles flying over the Fort, and we're taking that as a good sign for Candlelight Ghost Tours tonight! What caught our attention first was their unique screech. This photo taken April, 2019.
Some investigators believe water confines paranormal activity in a location, so tonight's Candlelight Ghost Tours could be the most...interesting... of the season. If you are a ticketholder look for an email this afternoon with details for tonight. We are opening up some additional indoor space (still room for social distancing.) Boots are definitely a good idea. #haunted #ghost #Halloween #weekend
Due to popular demand we just added another paranormal investigation event! Join us for Haunted Holiday Open Investigation Evening on Saturday, December 5. We can't guarantee walk up tickets will be available so purchase in advance or risk disappointment. #phillyhalloween #explorephilly #visitphilly #phillydatenight

It's October, full of Halloween decor like pumpkins, spiders and BATS. Support an upcoming Eagle Scout project installing bat boxes (hoping they will help control the mosquito population!) in the High Battery by purchasing this awesome custom designed t-shirt because..... BAT things happen in Philadelphia! https://buff.ly/2GDJzIG
