A common stretch I give patients in the office is the piriformis stretch. Why is it so important to stretch the piriformis muslce? Tightness of the piriformis can cause the following: -Difficulty sitting -Pain along the sciatic nerve pathway... -Tingling or numbness in the buttocks -Tenderness when sitting, usually on one side of the buttocks -Low back pain If ignored for too long, tightness in this muscle can turn into piriformis syndrome which can be extremely painful and harder to reverse. Try these two simple stretchs on a daily basis to relieve tension and decrease back and leg pain. If you have any questions on how to perform these or any other stretches, please message us. We would like to reach out to all our patients and their families to offer some tips of advice during this time. While we understand the implications of what is going on, now is not the time to eliminate things that help your immune system. Chiropractic care has been shown to decrease stress on the body. Social distancing should only be reserved for large gatherings or unsanitary places. Aside from continuing chiropractic care, you should also focus on decreasing other phys...ical and emotional stressors. Stress increases the amount of cortisol release in your body decreasing the immune systems ability to function optimally. As hard as it is for some to limit media exposure, it may be causing more stress than necessary at this moment. Exercise is also important for boosting the immune cells in your body. Even if your gym is closed, try to engage in at least 30 minutes of physical activity like body weight exercises or yoga per day. Simply put- set down the phone, get off the couch and move. Being stagnant only increases inflammation and decreases immunity. Furthermore you can go outside for more sun exposure, make sure you are getting enough sleep and eat healthy foods high in vitamins and minerals. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.
