It is a day to celebrate the men and women who have been canonized as saints by the Church, and all those whose lives reflect the goodness of God. All Saints' Day is a Catholic Holy Day of Obligation.
Halloween October 31 is Halloween, a day where we celebrate All Saint Eve. Did you know Halloween began as a Catholic tradition. All Hallows Eve designates the vigil of All Saints Day. Hallow is an old English word for saint. Both the feast of All Saints Day (November 1) and its vigil (October 31) have been celebrated since the early eighth century when they were instituted by Pope Gregory III in Rome. A century later, the feast and its vigil were extended to the Church at large by Pope Gregory IV.
