Im writing this with tears in my eyes. Early this morning our dog Shadow passed away after fighting hard for 3 days. She was a 2-year-old Rottweiler with a swee...t personality and a howl that was so adorable. She loved playing in the yard with her sister and Momma and loved to taunt our pigs. We believe Shadow and her sister Piper ate some mushrooms called Shaggy Ink Cap and that is what caused her to pass, I'm posting a pic of them so you know what to watch for. We had got her on some antibiotics and other meds that her sister was taking too but I think we got the meds started to late as she didn't show signs of being sick right away or she may have ate more than her sister and just couldn't recover from it. If you read nothing else in this post PLEASE check your yards for mushrooms they can be so deadly and pop up within hours...... Rest in peace Shadow you are so loved and will be very missed. Good evening - Back with additional information re: Rule #3: All members must swipe their own individual fob before entry; please do not enter on another member’s swipe. Members allowing non-members entry will forfeit their membership; no refund. It’s come to our attention that frequently there are people with dogs attempting to enter the dog park, only to be told that Overlook Dog Park is a members-only dog park. We thank our members who take the time to explain to these ...potential members the registration process. There are some concerns that occasionally there may be people waiting around the gate for someone to leave so they can enter without a fob. We do want to stress that under no circumstances should anyone allow someone to enter the dog park if they are not registered members. If people want to check out the park for one visit prior to joining, we will try to accommodate that only IF they email us or contact the Township offices to make scheduled arrangements. We know that our membership appreciates that the registration process and rules have been put in place in an effort to help make visits to the dog park a safe and stress-free experience. To assist with this situation, you've probably already noticed the Township has placed signs on the bulletin board and also on the entry fence that state it is a members-only dog park. Good Day All ! The pictures are of a mower-torn tennis ball and a small frisbee toy found this past weekend in the Large Dog Area. In recent years there have been multiple instances where dogs have ingested pieces of tennis balls, requiring expensive surgeries to have them removed. Balls and toys left behind are not easily seen by mowing crews and can be scattered in pieces throughout the grass. Regardless of how diligent one is about following their dog around the park, it ...is nearly impossible to notice and pick-up pieces of tennis balls (or other toys destroyed by mowers) before a dog spots it and has it in the mouth. We remind ALL that toys are NOT allowed in the common area, not even if there are no other dogs present in that area. And please, if you take a toy into the small or large dog park areas (frisbees, chuck-it-balls, etc), take it with you when you go ! One further important point: There have been reports of increased instances when small dogs are present in the large dog area. We try to allow for some flexibility regarding members who have both a smaller and larger dogs, and realize that a small dog living in a home with a large dog will probably be quite comfortable being in the large dog area. However, no one can anticipate how other large dogs may react. We are asking that members please refrain from taking small dogs into the large dog area, as not all large dogs are necessarily fine with small dogs and may exhibit a chase and kill instinct, or have no experience playing and be excessively rough with smaller dogs. For obvious reasons, large dogs are not allowed in the small dog enclosure. The common area is a place where both small and large dogs can socialize together. IF you have a small dog (smaller than 30 lbs) the small or common areas are the two places you should be. IF you are there with both a small and large dog inside the large dog enclosure, and there are large dogs there obviously agitated by the presence of that small dog, do the right thing and take your dogs into the common area. Members with large dogs should not be expected to have to leave the large dog area just so a small dog may play in there. The updated rules were emailed last November to the membership list and new members are given a copy of the list when they register. The rules are also posted on the bulletin board outside the dog park entrance. If anyone is unable to locate their list, please feel free to email us and we’ll zip a copy out to you, or you can view them on the website: www.overlookdogpark.org Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
