Happy International Women‘s Day! I was going through some old pictures and found this one of my grandma on her wedding day in 1944. The daughter of immigrants, she was raised during the Great Depression, got married during World War 2, raised three children, and then went on to have a full time career until the day she died at 96. She’s definitely a role model for me everyday and I especially think of her on days like today. I want to draw on her values and work ethic and continue to incorporate the values of intersectional feminism and advocacy into my work today. I hope you can all find someone who inspires your work on a daily basis too. #werisebyliftingothers #internationalwomensday
In honor of Black History Month, I wanted to make sure I included more Black authors on my reading list this year. I read Me and White Supremacy, which is a 28 day challenge to white people to challenge their own racist stereotypes and beliefs. I found it incredibly thought provoking and powerful. So many of us talk about learning and listening and then don’t do the work. As Black History Month comes to a close, perhaps this is one small way we could continue to actually do anti-racist work - by engaging in challenges like this and ensuring that we are consuming more media and content from BIPOC creators/authors. Definitely recommend this one! #pfcbookclub #blackhistorymonth #firechrisharrisontoo
So excited to say that I received the second dose of the Pfizer covid vaccine as of this morning. I was in Phase 1A as a Licensed Professional Counselor. As a lactating woman, I talked through questions and concerns with my OB and pediatrician as well as the staff on site. Other than a sore arm, the main symptom I experienced was a swollen lymph node that led to a clogged duct, a small price to pay in my opinion! If you are ttc, pregnant, or breastfeeding/pumping, I definitely encourage you to check with your health care providers about your concerns as well - it really put my mind at ease! Here’s to science and the light at the end of the tunnel #covidvaccineadvocate #letsdothis
Stop what you’re doing and pick up this book immediately! Burnout by Emily and Amelia Nagoski is the self help book for people who don’t really love self help books. The authors explore how the cycle of stress starts, why it persists, and how we can stop it. They take a deep dive into topics we don’t even realize are related to stress, like body image and fighting the patriarchy. I highly recommend it! #pfcbookclub #januarybookofthemonth
If you are reader, a parent, and feeling angry and helpless right now, might I suggest checking out all of the antiracist books your library card can handle from your local children’s department? It’s helping to ease our hearts over here. #healing #takingaction #tryingtobuildanempatheticnextgeneration
Are you doing any new year’s resolutions? Does that feel completely ridiculous in the time of covid? I said I would try to get more organized which was really just an excuse to shop the Target storage sale. And this post is proof that I’m trying and also an excuse to post a picture of my cat, which I think we all need right now. I know it’s only January 5, and some people are already losing hope for the new year - please hang in there. I think whatever you’ve already done this year (just managing to stay alive each day) is amazing! #2021goals #wecandohardthings
Happy new year! I decided to kick off year #4 of my own business by doing some telehealth sessions back in the office today!! It felt so good to get a little bit back to normal. Hoping to do that more often this year until we can all be face to face when it’s safe again. Hope you all had a peaceful holiday season. #happynewyear #readyfor2021
Self care today, friends! I voted early, so I’m going to hop off social media today and indulge in some mindless games on my phone while wearing a very ugly but very cozy sweater. What are you going to do to take care of yourself today? #vote2020 #anythingisselfcarereally #nojudgment
