PEST ALERT!! PLEASE SHARE It may look pretty, but the impact will be anything but. Spotted lanternfly (SLF), Lycorma delicatula, is an invasive plant hopper native to Asia. First detected in southeastern Pennsylvania in 2014, SLF has now officially been detected in both Beaver and Allegheny counties. It is considered a nuisance pest in the ornamental plant and landscape industries.... SLF has piercing-sucking mouthparts that it uses to feed on the phloem tissue or sap of the plant. It has a broad range of hosts with a feeding range of over 65 recorded plant species. With the tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima) being the apparent favored host, other important landscape plants are also at risk. Some other plants to monitor are rose, grape, hops, black walnut, river birch, and silver/red maple to name a few. Monitor all landscape plants for egg masses, nymphs, and adults. If detected, do not hesitate to contact us.
