As this year wanes into its final days, Penn Vet’s Dean Andrew Hoffman reflects upon the extraordinary moments exemplified by the Penn Vet community, near and far, throughout the past twelve months: I am forever grateful to this Penn Vet community, a place that I am proud to call home. Thank you for keeping the holiday spirit all year round. From my home to yours, I wish you a peaceful holiday season and a very healthy new year." Watch his full message

More than ever, veterinarians are critical to keeping tabs on potential disease threats to ensure animals large and small remain healthy, sustaining the livelihoods of farmers and agricultural producers, as well as contributing to a safe and secure food supply - here in the Commonwealth, and beyond. Join us on Wednesday, January 13, for an exclusive and interactive virtual Pennsylvania Farm Show event as we explore the unique, multi-faceted roles of three Penn Vet alumni and one current Penn Vet student, and how they each are essential to sustaining Pennsylvania's vibrant agriculture industry. Mookie may have been born with a bad heart but he had a big heart and a tremendous will to live. At age nine Mookie was diagnosed with mitral valve disease (MVD). He wasn't expected to live out the summer, but he lived through seven more. Ryan Hospital’s Cardiology Service cared for him until he passed away at age 16. Mookie's owner created a fund at Penn Vet to honor his indomitable spirit and help other dogs with MVD. Read more about Mookie's "Heart Full of Love" at https://bit.ly/3p7Zdgg

Dr. Shelley Rankin sees a silver lining in the dark cloud of COVID-19: "During my 30-year career, I've been at the intersection of animal and human diseases, studying Salmonella then staph infections and antibiotic resistant bacteria. Obviously, COVID-19 is a zoonotic disease, so, aside from the very real and devastating impact on public health, it’s an interesting moment for science that looks at infectious disease. And I’ve been very busy. Get to know her 'In the Office' in the latest issue of Bellwether: https://bit.ly/3r0UHSN
