I know this is short notice to everyone but we didn't want to get everybody excited and then have to deflate your bubble by canceling an event. Tomorrow, May 1,... 2021 at my farm we are holding a GARDEN TRACTOR plow day. The event was put together as an invite only for the tractors and plow operators since this is an inaugural event and we didn't want to be have too many people show up and not enough field to plow. We are testing the waters to see how it goes before we commit to making it an annual event and I hope everyone understands that. We do welcome you to stop around and watch tho. This event will benefit the Ickesburg Fire Company and any and all money raised will be given to them. We are kicking off around 10 am and will go until 4 pm or until everyone packs up and goes home. The address is 412 Liberty Valley Road, Ickesburg, PA 17037. See more

The Pennsylvania Railroad from Harrisburg to Lewistown was completed in 1849 with major stations at Duncannon, Newport and Millerstown. At Marysville, it intersected the Northern Central Railway, completed in 1851, which connected Perry County to Baltimore.

By 1798, the The Sign of the Blue Ball alerted travelers that a tavern operated along the Carlisle-Sunbury road near Little Buffalo Creek. In 1812, John Kough...took over the tavern and it became an important stopping place for dispatch riders during the War of 1812. John Kough also operated a sawmill, gristmill and iron foundry nearby on his property. Thank you to the Historical Society of Perry County for providing the photograph. Marjorie Fetter Goossens was born in Alinda, PA in 1912 and raised in Carlisle. A beautiful and musically talented woman, she captured the hearts of many men. ... Her last husband was Eugene Goossens, the world-famous British composer and conductor. They moved to Australia where he became the first permanent conductor of the Sydney Australia Symphony Orchestra and contributed to the creation of the now-famous Opera House. Marjorie donated Fetter House, built by her great- great- grandfather, to the Historical Society of Perry County in 1974 when she returned to Europe to live there permanently. FACEBOOK The Pennsylvania Canal offered a boost to Perry County commerce in the early 19th century. The Juniata Division of the canal opened in 1829 and the Sus...quehanna Division in 1831. In 1859 the Pennsylvania Railroad bought the canals and continued to operate them with some freight traffic until the flood of 1889 damaged or destroyed much of the system.
