Growing up in a family of engineers, Matt Bahr PhD (Pharmaceutics) was always interested in a career in the sciences, but it was when he realized that he would defend his PhD dissertation on the 30-year anniversary of the Persian Gulf War, where he engaged in combat as a Marine in Kuwait, that he’d seen how far he’d come. https://www.usciences.edu//veteran-defends-dissertation-on

In that position, she is responsible for setting the strategic direction for cost-effective, clinically appropriate formulary management and quality improvement. Lisa’s previous experiences include direct patient education for chronic conditions such asthma and diabetes, hospice care and retail pharmacy dispensing. As an avid reader, Lisa is a lifelong learner and encourages others to do the same.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH | DAY 24 Give a warm welcome to Josie Berry! She is currently a P1 pharmacy student here at USciences. She also works as a pharmacy intern at Walgreens Pharmacy, and this April will actually be her one year workiversary! Josie serves as the Public Relations Manager for both BSU (Black Student Union) as well as G.E.N.E.S. (Generating Excellence and Negating Exclusion for Students of Color). These two organizations were createdto cater to African American ...students like herself and to give them a safe place to embrace and share their culture. And as a first generation college student as well as the first future doctor in her family, Josie wants to make her family proud and prove that she can persevere through adversity. Josie had found that the initial transition from U2 to P1 was a little challenging, but with the help from her peers as well as her professors, navigating the transition has become a lot smoother. Although the classes are more difficult than the classes she has had in the past, she is appreciative of the fact that all that she is learning is essential to her success as a future pharmacist. Josie’s goal as of now is to start her career in retail pharmacy. She loves the fast-paced setting as well as the patientinteractions. A dream of hers would be to open up multiple pharmacies in her home country of Liberia, West Africa. Growing up, she was taught to always help those in need and to always give back. She would love for her way to give back to be by giving individuals access to the medications that they need. Wish Josie well on her journey!

More to celebrate for National Pharmacy Week! Just a day after National Pharmacy Technician Day, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services granted the ability for pharmacy technicians and interns to administer childhood vaccines and COVID-19 vaccines when they become available. This is great recognition for our very capable technician workforce and a great leap forward for public health, as communities will now have expanded access to these much needed vaccines. #pharmacytechnician #HHS #vaccines #NationalPharmacyWeek #immunization

October 12th is #WomenPharmacistDay! join us as we celebrate the significant gains that women have made in pursuing careers in pharmacy. Honor the trailblazers who have made such progress possible and recognize the important contributions that women pharmacists make, every day, to delivering quality care to patients in communities, nationwide. While women made up only 8% of all U.S. pharmacists as recently as the 1960s, women currently comprise 55% of the pharmacist workforce, and that number is expected to continue to rise. #welovetoseeit #girlpower #womeninpharmacy #womenpharmacistday #wpd2020
