BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!! Philadelphia Dancesport Championships is moving to Tampa, Florida this year! After all the considerations related to the Hotel restrictions in Philadelphia and The State guidelines we decided to relocate to Florida to guarantee that the event will happen on April 8-11 in the safest way possible. This change is only for 2021 and from the next year we will be back in Philadelphia. The location is confirmed- it’s going to be Tampa Downtown Hilton Hotel! We would like to thank all of Philadelphia Dancesport fans and supporters and if you can please follow us in Florida this year. We look forward to seeing you all very soon! New Schedule is updated for in person event April 8-11! Additionaly we are running a virtual day of prerecorded and live zoom events for dancers who can not attend on Wednesday April 7. Top Students and Top Teachers can accumulate points in all combined events. Fordney Foundation points for the kids will be awarded in all categories also. Independence Hall originally served as the State House of the Colony of Pennsylvania and is best known as the place where the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. It was also where the Continental Congress met again 11 years later and wrote the United States Constitution. The highlight is Assembly Hall, where the Second Continental Congress met behind closed doors to discuss their desire for independence from the British. This i...s where the Declaration of Independence was signed and where George Washington was chosen as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army. Independence Hall sits across from the Liberty Bell Pavilion in the Independence National Historical Park. There is no entrance fee, but tickets are timed and limited, and all visitors should be prepared for security screening. Free ESL services are available with advance request. The Smith Memorial Arch actually consists of 13 sculptures and busts. It was written in prominent Philadelphian Richard Smith’s will to donate $500,000 to build a monument to Pennsylvania’s naval and military heroes of the Civil War. Designed by architect John T. Windrim, it took 15 years to build from start to finish and now serves as the gateway to West Fairmount Park. No doubt more attention will be brought to the memorial when Parkside Neighborhood Edge finishes construction in fall 2017. No doubt one of the most iconic fountains in the city, the Swann Memorial Fountain dates back to 1924 and is the heart of Logan Square. Designed by Alexander Stirling Calder, there are three bronze sculptures of Native Americans in recline that spout water, representing the city’s three main waterways: The Delaware River, Schuylkill River, and the Wissahickon Creek. The memorial is dedicated to Dr. Wilson Cary Swann, founder and president of the Philadelphia Fountain Society.
