We're a senior men's select side but it's always great to see youth development in the area. Shout out to coaches Flan, Murph, and JB for bringing the North Philadelphia Nomads U19 RFC to our first match. Takes a lot of small contributions to add up into something big and sometimes it's as simple as having teams willing to lend you jerseys so you tell who's who during the drills and then get a scrimmage together. The first points in the history of our Militia side were scored on a try by Jonathan Ahern. A windy February day wasn't the best setting for a young flyhalf to showcase his talent but Curly fought through the elements and turned in a solid performance! #united

With a first half penalty kick Danny Giannascoli became the first ever points scorer for Philly United and gave us a 3-0 lead en route to a 32-30 victory. His kicking was crucial throughout the day. Congrats on scoring our first points! #united

Now that we've stretched the profiles out as far as we can it's time to get into some team "firsts" beginning with a shout out to Sean Mahon for picking up the first yellow card in team history! Sometimes you need to set the tone with a physical presence and Sean certainly brought that for us! #united

In the world of rugby team management Dave Codell is the rare "triple threat" who's equally adept at bringing players tape, water, or a kicking tee. #skillset In our match against the Capital he was particularly strong with the tee. Look at our guy never losing track of that thing! #focus #united

we wanted to put points on the board so we brought in the coach with the +1049 point differential from 2017-2020! Michael McCandless and Doylestown Rugby Club have been putting up huge scorelines for years and his work as an assistant coach helped our offense roar to life in the second half. Mike is also involved with Doylestown Rugby Academy whose U19 side was selected as the 11th best U19 Club from 2015-2020 by Goff.... Way to go Coach! #united

If you're starting up a select side get a coach who knows what he's doing! Jon Grasso was an excellent player for Long Island Rugby and Norfolk Blues Rugby and was invited to be a USA Eagles camp participant and player for Atlantis Rugby. From 2007-2012 his teams finished top 12 in the US 4 times. As impressive as that playing resume is, it's Jon's coaching pedigree that really stands out. Jon has been a D1 coach for Norfolk, Baltimore-Chesapeake Rugby Football Club and Schu...ylkill River Rugby. He has also coached for Stars Rugby 7s, Capital Rugby Union Selects and Beltway Elite 7s where he founded the program. When Jon makes decisions and formulates a plan for us he isn't guessing, he knows what works, and bringing that experience was crucial to getting us a big win in our first match. Our coaching wishlist included someone that understood the local D3 landscape and we needed a rock solid forwards coach that could put the set piece together. Nobody in the area checks off both of those boxes like Jack Bukowski! One of the most respected coaches around, Jack has carefully honed his craft and is incredibly important to our team. Thanks for the hard work Jack, looking forward to working with you again!... #united
