Almost 10% of food stamp purchases used to buy sugary drinks. This is slightly more than the average for all US consumers. Certainly a big driver of poor health. While some segments of the population are making progress towards a healthier diet, lower income and education segments are struggling. This study suggests that access and affordability of healthy food could be contributing factors. We agree with that. We have also observed that the bulk of wellness solutions on the market today are targeting a middle or upper income customer.
