#Repost @pittcsd with @make_repost A BIG congratulations to 3rd year Doctor of Audiology (AuD) student, Mary Rose Bethel, who was invited to submit a 3 part article series to the Hearing Journal, based on her AuD research project poster, which was displayed at the American Academy of Audiology Annual Conference 2020. Read the first article "Accessible Audiology Education: Examining Self-Disclosure and Terminology Preferences of DHoH Students" here:... https://journals.lww.com//Accessible_Audiology_Education__ #PittCSD #PittSHRS
Why should I go to an audiologist when I can get a cheaper hearing aid online or from a friend? Short answer: Value, expertise, and customization! Hearing aids, as devices alone, are not what set you up for success. It is how the hearing aids are programmed that make all the difference in your hearing!... Hearing aids bought online or gifted by a friend may be cheaper, but they are not customized to your hearing loss. This results in little to no benefit for you and your hearing. Audiologists are trained in programming your hearing aids specifically to your ear and your hearing loss. We care about YOU! The way we do this accurately is through Real Ear Measurements. Make sure that your audiologists does the tests that are described in this post. Picture: Second year, Laura, is modeling what it is like to have Real Ear to Coupler Difference (RECD) measured.

Halloween may be over, but do you know what’s still spooky? Noise-induced hearing loss! NIHL is caused by exposure to both loud sounds over time (working in construction, listening to music, etc) or a one time exposure to a loud sound (gunfire, explosion, sirens, etc)... Use ear protection whenever you are participating in loud activities. Did you know that you can have custom ear plugs made with different filter levels? These are called musicians ear plugs. These plugs allow you to protect your hearing while maintaining sound quality. See an audiologist if you’re interested!
