This fall, Madie Wirth (OTD '20) had her article "Portrayal of Cognitive Changes in the Media: Connections to Occupational Therapy" published in the American Occupational Therapy Association - AOTA OT Student Pulse Newsletter. In this piece, written as part of her capstone experience, Madie uses the media portrayals of individuals with cognitive impairments to promote OT's role in supporting those with conditions like dementia and Alzheimer's disease. We invite you to read the full article here: https://bit.ly/2K62pu8 #PittSHRS
Last night, several of our 2nd year Doctor of Physical Therapy students co-presented with students from the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program at Health Pro...fessions Prep. The virtual event was held to empower and expose Pittsburgh high school students to careers in health sciences. This program encourages participation from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in the health sciences. The Pitt PT and Pitt Occupational Therapy students highlighted their unique roles as healthcare providers, how the two professions work closely together and how they collaborate as members of the larger interprofessional healthcare team. The high school students had fun playing an interactive polling game on Zoom, where they were encouraged to share what they had learned about the similarities and differences between PT and OT. It was an informative and rewarding event for both the high school student participants and for the presenting University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences students! PT Student: Hannah Altsman, Katina Demarchi, Marie Pelner, Maddie Wells OT Student: Cosette Carter, Emily Krut, Claire Payne, Emily Pullman, Nicole Saba Faculty Advisors: Bonnie Virag, Kelsey Voltz
