This week’s #FeatureFriday spotlights Clinical Assistant Professor, Rick Joreitz, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC. Eight years as a Physical Therapist for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and two Stanley Cup wins later, Rick joined the PT Department in 2019. In addition to teaching the musculoskeletal series, post-professional development, and Kinesiology, Rick is also the Physical Therapist for Pitt Football, and Men's and Women's Basketball. His 7 days a week schedule includes pre-practice t...reatment and taping for active players, assisting in practice coverage, and providing post-practice treatment to players with long-term injuries. He coordinates each player’s care with the Athletic Trainers, and Strength and Conditioning Coaches. Rick also serves as a clinical instructor for one of the 3rd year students; who has the opportunity to provide PT services in the Athletic Training Room for D1 collegiate athletes. Together, they have started a weekly journal club review with 3 of the Athletic Trainers. There's still time to donate to the Birmingham Free Clinic! The Birmingham Free Clinic, located in the South Side, has been serving the Pittsburgh community since 1994 with the goal of providing free health care services to homeless and uninsured individuals. All services, such as medical care, rehab services, interpretation, medication and social services are provided at no cost to any of the patients. SHRS is intimately familiar with Birmingham Free Clinic as a number o...f our academic programs provide clinical services at the site. Birmingham relies on donations to function and the need is critical during this time of pandemic. The auction and raffles open on February 1st, and donations are being accepted now! Auction items range from signed Steelers memorabilia to amazing Sephora beauty baskets plus so much more. Visit these links if you’re interested in helping or if you want to find out more!
