Head over to Phipps Conservatory this weekend for the Bioblitz Family Fun Festival. Explore the biodiversity of Schenley Park, meet local scientists and naturalists, and engage with community organizations and agencies, such as the Shade Tree Commission. Phipps Conservatory is a valuable city partner as part of the Biophilic Cities Network, which recognizes the important role of nature in our lives. We are dedicated to protecting and promoting nature so our residents can enjoy the wide range of benefits of open spaces. Planner Christopher Corbett and Director Andrew Dash spoke with City Council yesterday at a Public Hearing about a permanent Inclusionary Zoning Overlay District in Lawrenceville. Council received public testimony from 22 people, most in favor of making the district permanent. Now, the Standing Committee will meet to decide on the IZOD boundary. If passed, new construction or renovation projects that include 20 or more units for sale or rent must affordably price 10 percent of those units. As the Art in Parks program launches its 2021 expansion into Pittsburgh’s five regional parks, we would like to introduce the artists who will be creating the various installations. Marlana Adele Vassar is one of the artists selected for Highland Park. She is a Pittsburgh artist exploring ways to share her art that will enhance the City. She has 15 years of experience across a variety of mediums and her current focus is on creating distinctive public art with a balance of style and substance. Her artistic philosophy is art is everywhere, and the ordinary has the potential to be extraordinary.
