Back in 2008, York City Police historian John Stine finished his research to compile a list of Police Chiefs and Commissioners that have commanded the York City Police Department. That list, which has been a virtual exhibit on our web site almost from the beginning, has been routinely updated as the leadership of the department has changed. Recently, our web team dug deeper into the old newspapers, expanding on John's initial work. This roster was just updated, which now includes detailed lengths of service as well as additional information and error corrections. http://www.policeheritagemuseum.com/chiefs.html

Randy Watts is a rather prolific Cumberland County area history author, and he has released a book on the history of policing in Carlisle.

From Jim McClure and Retro York: Dover (York County), PA 1904 jail and plaque dedication. This jail was moved to the Dover Community Park. The plaque says that the first occupants were the 2 masons that worked on the building, who became inebriated upon its completion.
