"The United States is pretty much unimaginable without locks and dams, and without levees. Vast swathes of the middle of the country would be uninhabitable if those levees weren't there. A tremendous part of our industrial base down in Louisiana would be unusable if those levees weren't there. Agriculture as we know it wouldn't really work without the lock and dams."
#locksmoveUS let's LOCK in funding.

The Pittsburgh District continues to make progress improving the Johnstown Local Flood Protection Project. Constructed between 1938 and 1943, this concrete lin...e river channel improvement project provides over 9 miles of flood protection along the Stonycreek, Little Conemaugh, and Conemaugh Rivers. Over the past few months, the District has been working to clean out sediment, trees, and obstructions along a portion of the system. This will greatly improve the capacity of the channel and provide benefits to the community. District Commander Andrew J. Coby Short visited the site today to check out progress. Another example of the great work USACE and the Pittsburgh District executes every day. See more
#WaterWednesday: Braddock Locks and Dam, located on the Monongahela River at mile 11.3, will close the primary and auxiliary lock chambers so the Corps’ repair ...team can perform repairs of the lock hydraulic system. The work will require five separate eight-hour closures of both chambers. The closures will occur each day between Jan. 11-25 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Upon re-opening, tows in queue will be locked in order of arrival. The closures will be announced via radio and through the Waterways Association of Pittsburgh Navigation committee; 24-hour advanced notice is anticipated. Mariners should monitor channel 13 for updates or changes during the periods of chamber closures.

#ProjectMonday: Work continues at Emsworth Locks and Dams, located on the Ohio River at mile 6.2. The primary lock chamber will be closed from Jan. 11 at 6 a.m.... through Jan. 27 at 11:59 p.m. to complete the remainder of the work on the lower-end gate repairs. The Corps’ repair fleet began the upgrades in November 2020 during the dewatering when they tested the new bulkhead closure system and completed the downstream lock-gate anchorages maintenance. Mariners should monitor channel 13 for updates or changes during the periods of chamber closures. https://lpmw.usace.army.mil/apex_lpmw/print_nav_notice
