Penn State Army ROTC 05.07.2021

With Just ONE WEEK before finals and commissioning next Friday, the NLB continues our Spotlight on Seniors The NLB would like to highlight Cadet Daniel Teed from Edinboro, PA. Cadet Teed will graduate next week with a Bachelors in Geosciences and will branch into Active Duty Aviation. When not busy as the student S3 and with his studies, cadet Teed enjoys skiing, backpacking, and hunting. When asked why he joined ROTC, cadet Teed replied: "I knew in high school that I wanted... to join the military, but I also really wanted to get a college degree. I heard about ROTC through a family friend, and it seemed like the perfect option. I shadowed a cadet at Penn State after getting accepted and immediately knew this is where I wanted to be. The sense of family here is like none other." The NLB would also like to highlight Cadet Zachary Curtis from Harrisburg, PA. Cadet Curtis will graduate next week with a Bachelors in Political Science with minors in Sociology and Military Studies and will branch into the Active Duty Military Intelligence with a branch detail in Infantry. Cadet Curtis is a member of the NLB Running Club and Tactics Club. When not busy with his studies and ROTC, he enjoys hiking, traveling, and shooting. Cadet Curtis joined the NLB because: The size and quality of the program drew me to the NLB, I enjoy working with all of the different personalities and backgrounds. As for the Army, I want to be a part of an organization that has the ability to make an impact on the world. We are PENN STATE!!!

The NLB continues our Spotlight on Seniors We would like to highlight Cadet Mackenzie Kearns from Bedford, NH. Cadet Kearns will graduate with a Bachelors in Nutritional Physiology and Biochemistry with minors in Kinesiology and Military Studies and will branch into Active Duty Transportation. Cadet Kearns is a member of Kaizen, a brother in Phi Epsilon Kappa (health professions fraternity), and a member of the Penn State Crossfit Club Cadet Kearns also loves taking long wal...ks down the beach and traveling and adventuring. When asked why she joined the NLB, cadet Kearns stated: Coming out of high school I was looking to become a part of a new team and something bigger than myself. I shadowed a cadet in the NLB my senior year and I knew I found the team and family I was looking for. I am so grateful for all of the people I’ve met and the memories I’ve made. For the glory! The NLB would also like to highlight Emily Burns from Mahwah, NJ. Cadet Burns will graduate with a Bachelors degree in Biobehavioral Health and will branch into the Active Duty Medical Services. Cadet Burns is a member of the PSU CrossFit Club, and Kaizen. On her off time she enjoys running, cooking, and traveling. When asked why she joined the NLB, Cadet Burns stated: I wanted to pursue a college degree, but also to have my next chapter in life being to serve my country and therefore ROTC has truly been the best of both worlds. The NLB has provided me the opportunity to continue to learn more about myself through the consistent challenges, has helped me grow into the overall strong, confident person I am today, as well as instilled in me a work ethic that I will carry into my career. I have always been passionate about service, caring for others, and building solid relationships, which will be vital as a Medical Services officer. In my career, I look forward to where the Army will take me and the adventures that await, the people I will meet, and keeping in touch with the amazing people I have already met through the NLB. We are PENN STATE!!!

The NLB continues our Spotlight on Seniors We would like to highlight Cadet Emma Thurston from Bel Air, MD. Cadet Thurston will graduate with a Bachelors in Nursing and branch into the US Army Reserves Nurse Corps. Cadet Thurston is a member of the Rincenaleon, Penn State’s Irish Dance Club, and enjoys hiking with family, cooking and baking for friends. When asked why she joined the NLB, Cadet Thurston replied: I had a calling to serve my community and help others, I also wa...nted to carry on my family’s legacy of military service and prove to myself that I was strong enough. The NLB would also like to shine the spotlight on Cadet Emma Thomas from Newark, DE. Cadet Thomas will graduate in two weeks with a Bachelors in Bio Behavioral Health and branch into the National Guard Medical Services. Cadet Thomas is a member of tri-Sigma sorority and the PA Guard Medical detachment unit. On her off time she enjoys hiking & working (sad but true lol). When asked why she joined the NLB, Cadet Thomas replied: Freshman year, I showed up to my first PT session on a whim. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but thankfully stuck around after realizing how great the people were! The structure and work ethic the NLB has brought to my life is truly unmatched. I look forward to the experiences and challenges I will face as an Army officer!

Today the NLB continues our Senior Highlights The NLB would like to shine the spotlight on Cadet Kris Lunden from West Chester, PA. Cadet Lunden will graduate in three weeks with a Bachelors in Political Science and a Minor in Security and Risk Analysis and Military Studies while branching into Active Duty Military Intelligence with a Branch Detail in Chemical. While not busy with ROTC and his studies, cadet Lunden is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha political science honors societ...y and enjoys working out and traveling. When asked why he joined the NLB, cadet Lunden stated: To get the opportunity to be a part of something larger than myself and work towards a positive impact on both the country and the world. From a young age I've always loved studying history and always wanted a chance to be a part of it. The army and ROTC can provide that opportunity unlike other jobs or careers. The NLB would also like to honor Kale Follweiler from Blandon, PA. Cadet Follweiler will graduate with a Bachelors in Economics and will branch into Active Duty Armor. Cadet Follweiler enjoys spending time with family, fitness, and golfing. When asked why he joined the NLB, cadet Follweiler replied: I shadowed a cadet in the NLB my junior year of high school and that’s when I knew. I wanted to become an officer all the while still having a social life outside of ROTC. Here I am in my final semester of college and I’m more sure than ever that this was the right choice for me. We are PENN STATE!!!

The NLB continues our spotlight on the Seniors Cadet Matthew Oxley is from Severna Park, MD. He will graduate with a Bachelors in Energy Business and Finance and branch Active Duty Ordinance. When not occupied with ROTC and studies, cadet Oxley is a member of the Delta Theta Sigma Social-Professional Agricultural Fraternity and has been involved with ROTC clubs to include Kaizen and the Cadet Recruiting Team, as well as the PSU Bass Fishing Club. When asked why he joined the ...NLB, cadet Oxley replied: I joined the NLB to carry on my family’s legacy of military service, which dates all the way back to the French & Indian War. Penn State has been a huge part of my life growing up, as I have numerous family members who graduated from here. Being able to go to PSU while also achieving my goal of commissioning into the world’s greatest Army is the best of both worlds to me. I also wanted to be able to challenge myself both mentally and physically while building lasting relationships and leadership skills in the process. Cadet Matthew Miekley from Carlisle, PA will graduate with a Bachelors in Civil Engineering and will branch into the National Guard Engineer Corps. Outside of studies and ROTC, he enjoys playing and watching sports, hiking, hunting, and skiing. When asked why he joined the NLB he stated: I joined the NLB because I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself and to give back to my country. I also wanted to challenge myself to become a better leader knowing it would help me in the Army and in my civilian life. The NLB gave me the opportunity to do all these things while getting an education at an outstanding university. We are PENN STATE!!!
