We would like to congratulate the Tyrone boys baseball team for winning the PIAA Class 3A Baseball Championships! This was the team's first ever state baseball title.

We would like to give a shout out to the State College Boys Track and Field Team as they successfully defended their 2019 outdoor Class AAA State Championship Team Title on Saturday at Shippensburg University. This is the team's third PIAA outdoor title in the last five years!! Congratulations to Head Coach Artie Gilkes and all of the athletes. We would also like to salute all of the other local track and field athletes that competed at the PIAA Championships (too numerous to... mention individually). Your determination, class, and sportsmanship made us very proud. Also a special mention given to the Lewisburg Boys 4x800 relay team for their gold medal performance. Dear friends of Rapid Transit, We would like to thank everyone for your loyal support in this very challenging year. Even though our sales for the entire year were down dramatically, our December/holiday sales were great. Thanks to you, our staff received much deserved holiday bonuses. I would also like to address the anonymous friend who sent me a large holiday gift with a very inspiring note attached. Thank you for your generosity and kindness. I did not feel right, however..., accepting such a large gift when so may people are in need. I have sent the entire amount to the State College Food Bank. Dear friends of Rapid Transit, Our condolences go out to the entire Friedman family on the sudden and unexpected death of Ed Friedman at the age of 72. We have been tenants of the Friedman family for 36 years, starting with Ed's father Sidney. Ed, Charlene, Ron, and Jonathan have all treated us more like family rather than tenants. Through good times and bad, their concern for our business has been one thing we could always count on. The current crisis has tested our business... like never before. Once again, Ed and his family have been there for us when we needed them the most. I am sure we would not have received the same treatment if we rented from a large out of town corporation, instead of a local family business. Ed has always been proud of his hometown, and his passing will leave a void in the State College community that will be hard to fill. Dear friends of Rapid Transit, Thanks to your generous support, we have had an amazing summer of business, especially considering the current economic conditions. I am sure there are not many downtown businesses that are lucky enough to keep their entire staff fully employed with full benefits. This fall however presents some unique challenges. No fall sports is one thing, but there also seems to be a great deal of apprehension in State College and the surrounding communities... about the start of the fall semester. Many of our customers have expressed to us that they will be avoiding downtown State College once the semester begins. We understand your concerns, and would like to remind you to please take advantage of our free local delivery service. For those of you who still come in for your shoe fittings, our store hours will remain unchanged, and we will continue to offer validations for free parking in all of the downtown parking garages. We have noticed in the last several weeks an increase in the number of visitors not only from all over PA, but from all over the country. We are asking our guests to please wear face coverings when entering our store, If you do not have a mask, or you simply left yours in the car, one will be provided to you for free. Dear Friends of Rapid Transit, As you know, Centre County is going "Code Green" on Friday May 29th. We have just completed almost 12 weeks with our doors locked. It has been a major challenge. The support from our friends and neighbors has been more then we had hoped. We have done just enough business to keep the bills paid. My staff and I are sincerely grateful, but it will take several years to fully recover financially. Even though our doors will finally be unlocked on Fri...day, we will continue with free local deliveries. We realize there are many people who are still uncomfortable being in public places. Also, we know that many of our local clients don't like coming to Downtown State College (parking, delivery trucks, construction, pedestrian traffic, etc.). So free local deliveries will now be a permanent part of our business model. Its going to be an interesting summer in the Centre Region. With no People's Choice Festival, no Arts Fest, no sports camps, no business conferences, and no alumni reunions, the challenges continue! Dear Friends of Rapid Transit, There is increasing pressure for us to unlock our doors, both financially and from the general public. The longer we operate with the doors locked the harder it is for us to sustain our current business level. Sales have fallen 20% since Centre County has gone to code yellow. Many people think that things are back to normal. They are not. The COVID-19 cases in the county are still increasing, as are the amount of deaths. We have nine long time e...mployees that have both children and aging parents. They are concerned about the safety of the work environment and exposure to the virus. Since there is no way for us to follow the strict social distancing guidelines, for non-essential retail, we have chosen to try to continue operating with the doors closed. We know that this will make it increasing more difficult for everyone. But at this time, for the safety of the staff, our customers, and the community we have no choice but to continue operating with our doors locked. We hope you understand. Dear friends of Rapid Transit, First of all we'd like to wish a happy Mother's Day to all of our wonderful moms out there in Happy Valley. Remember chocolate has calories, while athletic footwear helps burn calories, so a perfect gift could be a Rapid Transit gift card. As you know today, Friday, May 8th Centre County moves from code red to code yellow. There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what this means for local non-essential retail. Once again we have carefully revi...ewed the guidelines for code yellow as it applies to our business. It seems that in our business model there is no way to operate within the strict social distancing guidelines. Our store is small and fitting footwear requires some physical contact. Therefore we have chosen for the safety of our staff and customers not to unlock our doors until Centre County goes to code green. We will continue our local delivery service and shipping. If you are tired of looking at your spouse and want to get out of the house, we are now able to offer curbside pick-up!
