Devon's coffee house was centered on a holiday theme this week! The cafe was decorated with red and green with plenty of snacks that included candy canes, donuts, pastries, and a coffee and hot cocoa station! Patients read poems, told stories, and sang Christmas carols at the piano in front of our virtual holiday fireplace. This time was also utilized to give back and write Christmas cards for the homeless. Our patients felt it was important to give back, so they wrote cards in between acts. 85 cards were written with beautiful messages of encouragement and joy! This simple kind act helped to brighten the moods of our patients and get them into the holiday spirit!

Position Overview: Registered Nurses render professional nursing care to patients with behavioral healthcare needs. Specific Responsibilities: - Conducts intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history. - Plans and provides nursing care for patients. - Makes nursing diagnosis of the medical status of patients and recommends treatment options. - Arranges further medical attention when necessary. - Assists the client in understanding the nature of the disease of addiction and the need for treatment. - Tests for vital signs of pain and ensures treatment of pain. - Maintains patient confidentiality. Education and Experience: - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, or the equivalent combination of education and experience - Up to date and active nursing license in the state of PA - 2 years of experience in behavioral healthcare, addiction services or five years of supervisory experience is preferred. - Knowledge of health care, detoxification process, addiction, co-occurring disorders and DSM criteria and terminology.

With the days getting shorter, it's important to consider proper nutrition, exercise and getting enough daylight to combat depression in colder months.
