#Repost @squat_university with @make_repost Thoughts? Strength athletes spend a majority of their training time with 2 hands connected to the barbell & 2 feet on the ground. While these bilateral movements make up the competition lifts & our main focus as strength athletes - we should NOT forget unilateral training...and here’s why. . Unilateral lifts, carries & presses place a demand on the body unlike our normal training. They require increased level of stability, coo...rdination & postural awareness. If an athlete is lacking in these areas, they will often go unnoticed in most bilateral movements (squat, deadlift, clean, snatch, etc). This is one reason why small injuries slowly creep into our training over time. When we load our body with Small asymmetries, we create tiny amounts of microtrauma. Over time this microtauma adds up and creates injury/pain. Think of this like driving a car with one tire a little flat. The faster you drive the more sloppy the car will drive. . Using unilateral movements in training as accessory lifts can expose these problems, make the invisible now visible & allow the athlete to address these weak links and build a more robust body. Therefore we can use these exercises to supplement our heavy training - decreasing our risk of injury & improving our overall movement quality. This is how we find sustainability! .
