Wanted to share this story because we have been seeing things like this more and more lately. I had a fairly regular customer call and schedule their car for a coolant leak. He stated that he had just had the water pump replaced at a chain repair shop because it had broken down on a Saturday. We checked the car and found that during the water pump replacement they had broken one of the water pump bolts, cross threaded two others, didn't repair any of them, and tried to hide i...t with RTV (sealer). On top of that they completely missed that the radiator was also leaking. I instructed this customer to take it back to the "repair" shop that did all the damage and I would gladly check it afterwards. He was so worried about their ability to fix what they had damaged, he decided to have us repair it. He essentially ended up paying about 4 times what it should have cost to have his vehicle repaired. This isn't a post saying that all other shops are bad. There are plenty of great shops out there.
