Rescue Hose & Ladder Co. 01.07.2021

*Single Vehicle Crash* This morning at 07:38, Company 8 was alerted for a vehicle accident along Nicholson Road in Pike Township. Rescue 8-1, Engine Tanker 8-2, and Medic 853 responded. Crews arrived to find a lone vehicle over the embankment into several trees. After a search of the area, no occupant was located. The scene was then turned over to Pennsylvania State Police.

Rescue Hose and Ladder is once again teaming up with Community Blood Bank for a community blood drive. We are holding our blood drive Friday July 16th of Curwensville days. We are going to do it mobile this time over at Irwin Park so after your donation you can take advantage of all the food booths and vendors, The drive will be from 4:30pm until 8pm. Details on where you can sign up will be posted soon.

**Crash with Entrapment** Today at 12:21, Company 8 was dispatched to assist Company 25, Madera, with a vehicle accident along Zion Road in Knox Township. Rescue 8-1, Rescue 8-2, 851, and 853 all responded. Upon Rescue 8-1’s arrival, it was found that one vehicle involved was blocking the roadway, approximately 200 feet prior to the vehicle containing the trapped occupant. It was evident that the Rescue would not be able to reach the patient. The Rescue’s crew quickly detached hydraulic spreaders, cutters, and a portable pump and carried them to the other vehicle. Quick work was made of the entrapment with the assistance of Rescue 25’s crew. Crews then worked on controlling leaking fluids and traffic control. Meanwhile, Engine 25 handled a landing zone for Stat MedEvac 9.

Engine Tanker 8-2 just returned from a transfer assignment to Company 25, Madera, while they operated on a Working Fire with Entrapment in Company 24’s area.

**Working Fire** This evening at 17:52, Company 8 was dispatched to assist Company 6, Hyde, with a structure fire at the Edgewood Apartments. Engine Tanker 8-2 responded. While enroute, first arriving units found a working bedroom fire on the second division of the apartments. Company 8’s crew assisted with overhaul and ventilating the structure.

Last night at 22:38, Company 8 transferred Engine Tanker 8-2 to Sykesville, while they operated for several hours on a multiple alarm fire in Punxsutawney.

*Trench Rescue Training* Today, members completed a 16 hour Trench Rescue Operations class. This class focused on practical drills utilizing skills to safely perform rescue operations inside of collapsed trench excavations. Along with 14 members of our Company, the class was also attended by members of Lawrence Township, DuBois City, Pine Creek, and Pleasant Gap Fire Companies. Thanks goes out to Bob Barbarini and Terry Yeany of Technical Resq Training for instructing the class. To Curwenville Borough Street Department for digging the trenches. To Port Allegheny Fire Company for bringing their technical rescue trailer as well as Res-Q-Jack, for bringing their demo truck, to assist with the class.

Yesterday at 08:48, Company 8 was dispatched to assist Company 9 with a structure fire along Sixth Street Extension in Penn Township. Initial reports advised of a basement filling with smoke. Engine Tanker 8-2, Engine Tanker 8-1, Rescue 8-1, 853, and MedCom 8 all responded. Once on scene, crews found a malfunctioning furnace to be the cause of the smoke, then ventilated the residence.

*Overnight Crash* Last evening at 22:43, Company 8 was dispatched to a single vehicle rollover crash along Smith Street in Curwensville Borough. Rescue 8-1, Engine Tanker 8-2, 852, 853, and MedCom 8 all responded on the call. Crews were assisted on scene by Curwensville Borough Police and Cummings Towing.

A busy day for the Rescue Hose and Ladder. Company 8 operated on a total of 6 incidents today. -This morning at 00:17, Rescue 8-2 handled a tree down call on the Tryone Pike in Ferguson Township. ... -This morning at 07:00, two of our members went over to the DuBois burn building to take part in a Structural Burn Session. Engine Tanker 8-1 also took part in and pumped water during the class. -This afternoon at 14:01, Rescue 8-2 handled a tree down call on Morgan Road in Pike Township. -Later in the afternoon at 16:00, Rescue 8-2, along with several atvs and manpower assisted Elkland Search and Rescue with a Search Detail in Pike Township. 853, 851, and Med Com 8 all stood by at the command post. -During the search at 17:19, Rescue 8-2 handled several more trees down on Morgan Road in Pike Township. -This evening at 20:09, Company 8 was dispatched to a Water Rescue at the Curwensville Dam. Initial reports advised of several people in the water that had fallen out of an overturned canoe. Rescue 8-1, Rescue 8-2, Boat 8-1, Boat 8-2, Engine Tanker 8-2, 851, 853, and Med Com 8 all responded. Once on scene, crews deployed Boat 8-2 on the water and traveled across the lake to the area of the boaters. Contact was made with two victims and they were brought back to shore where EMS took over patient care. Boat 8-2 then returned to the water and towed the canoe back to the dock.

This evening, the RH&L Co. handled 5 storm related tree down calls in various sections of Curwensville Borough, Pike Township, and Ferguson Township.

Rescue Hose & Ladder Co. 20.07.2020

*Working Fire* This afternoon at 15:31, Company 8 was dispatched to a reported shed on fire in Lash Trailer Court in the Bloomington section of Pike Township. Engine Tanker 8-1, Engine Tanker 8-2, 853, 851, and Med Com 8 all responded. Initial reports advised of a small shed on fire that had started a grass fire. As fire crews arrived, it was found that the shed fire had extended into a trailer. The crew from ET 8-1 went interior and worked on suppression. ET 8-2 hit a hydrant outside of the trailer court and laid 300 feet of supply line into ET 8-1. Meanwhile, Company 8's EMS established rehab on scene. Company 8 was assisted by Engine 5, Engine Tanker 6, Tanker 7, Engine Tanker 25, and Rescue 25. Due to the extremely dry conditions that we are currently experiencing, please refrain from burning outside as fires can spread rapidly.
