Looking like something out of a Frankenstein movie, our DC welder aboard work car 64 is being repaired by volunteer Fred as a resistor failed in the unit. It is requiring some modifications in the unit to get it working again. This piece of equipment came from Johnstown and is extremely handy for welding along the railway using the 600 Volt DC current the trolley operates from. Car 64 is from Porto Portugal and was constructed in their shops in the 1930's. The Rockhill Trolley Museum was the first museum to acquire trolley cars from Porto Portugal with the acquisition of cars 64 and passenger trolley 172 in December, 1967

Today, Tuesday December 1, is Giving Tuesday. Our museum and other museums have been hit hard this year due to covid-19 shutting us and others down for a period of time. We were lucky enough to reopen for limited operations. We know for many, funds are scarce at this difficult time, and there are many other organizations in a similar plight making similar appeals. But if you do have funds available, any help you can give us to keep the museum pieces in historical working o...rder would be deeply appreciated. Thank you for your support! The General fund is one of the most important funds at the museum. This is used to pay the electric bill, insurance and many other expenses that the museum incurs whether we are open or not. We do have additional projects that are in need of support. Our Rio car 1875 is having its trucks, motors, and wheels refurbished back to operating condition. Car 315 from the Aurora Elgin and Chicago, is being totally rebuilt to its original 1909 condition including reinstalling the exterior stained glass. Philadelphia Bullet car 205 is having its wiring renewed for the interior lights. Please see the pictures below for some of the progress on car 315 Most of our trolleys were built before 1950, some as far back as 1900, making our collection unique. In order to maintain them, we rely on donations. With the cars and projects listed and your love and affection for our museum, we hope that you can give this Tuesday and donate to our museum. We hope you and yours are safe and healthy, and we look forward to seeing you again, riding aboard a trolley at the museum, as soon as possible. Happy Holidays! We are so excited about the Xmas event starting this coming weekend that we are giving you a preview. We have decorated out at Altoff siding, Blacklog Narrows, around the pavilion and at Meadow street station. If you are coming to the event, please take as many photos as you want, and share them with us! We love photos with our trolleys and with you in them!... **Note that though you see more than just the orange cars decorated, the 3 orange ones are the primary transport cars. The red ones will be out on display and used for other needs. Dress warmly for the event as it will be in the low 30s after the sun sets. We will provide the warmth for you in our heated trolleys! If you still want to attend the event, please visit https://eastbroadtop.com/christmas-event2020.html for tickets and more information. Happy Holidays!

172 got to stretch her legs after not being out on the line much this year. It was a bumpy ride for sure, out the line and back. She even got out at night, which doesn't happen often!

Many of you asked about our Christmas plans. With the EBT reopening this year we have a great opportunity to work with them for future events. With Xmas around the corner, we will be working with them for what should be a pretty awesome event. Below you will find the press release from the EBT. Come take a train ride and a trolley ride and see Santa and model trains as we celebrate our first "Christmas in Coal Country"! Caboose tickets are on sale now, and open-car tickets g...o on sale October 23rd (this Friday). Here's our full announcement: Railroad, Trolley Museum Plan ‘Christmas in Coal Country’ Event Children of all ages can bundle up and enjoy train and trolley rides along with cookies and hot chocolate when Santa Claus visits the East Broad Top Railroad and the Rockhill Trolley Museum in early December. The railroad’s station and its train will be beautifully decorated for the Christmas season, as will the trolleys and the trolley museum (across Meadow Street from the EBT station). Passengers can book seats on one of the railroad’s open cars or reserve an entire eight-person caboose heated with a coal stove perfect for a family or a group of friends. The EBT’s red-and-green M-7 diesel will pull the train on a four-mile round trip over newly refurbished track, then deliver passengers to the trolley museum for a trolley ride out to the Blacklog Narrows. Afterward, passengers can warm up with hot chocolate and a cookie, tour a model railroad, and visit with Santa (at a safe distance, of course). The railroad and the trolley museum will carefully limit the number of riders on each train and trolley car, and surfaces will be wiped down between runs. Visitors’ temperatures will be checked when they arrive, and everyone is asked to bring a mask for situations where social distancing is difficult, such as on the trolley cars and in the Gift Shop. The event will take place December 4, 5, 11, and 12, come rain, snow, or sunshine. Tickets include the train and trolley rides, hot chocolate and a cookie, and a chance to say Hi to Santa and visit the model railroad. The tickets are only being sold online. Caboose tickets are available now ($225 for up to eight people) and open-car seats will go on sale October 23 ($25 for adults, $20 for children aged 2 through 12). Friday trains will run at 4, 5, 6, and 7 p.m., while Saturday trains will run at 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 p.m. Wheelchairs can be accommodated in one of the EBT open cars and on one of the trolleys, but the historic cabooses are not accessible. Call the railroad for further information. Note that schedules and equipment are subject to change as circumstances dictate. In the event that state Covid guidelines force us to cancel the event, tickets will be refunded. Otherwise, tickets are not refundable or transferable. For tickets, go to https://eastbroadtop.com/christmas-event2020.html. We look forward to seeing you!
