Let's talk kick out flashing. Here is a project I'm working on in conjuction with Best Contracting and was just sent these wonderful pictures. This is a common occurrence in the world of Stone Veneer and Stucco. In this case NO kickouts were installed and the end result is some pretty extensive damage. This home isn't even that old. 10-15 years. The kickout diverts water into your spouting system and away from the home when running down a roof line.... Not to worry though, we're going to get this buttoned up and flashed properly! The more you know...

This diagram shows how to integrate #weepscreed into your water barrier system. The importance of the weep is to allow any moisture out at your sill plate transition (where wood meets block/concrete) while also letting air in to keep your walls dry. Not only does weep need installed, a drip edge is also required when continuing your stone onto the foundation. This diverts water over the stone on the foundation. Without the drip installed water will get in behind the stone a...nd in freezing climates may freeze and pop all your stone off the foundation (I've seen as much as 400sq ft sections just sitting on the ground) Failure or improper installation of these critical steps will result in rot/mold and you will never even see it.

CAUTION! I get asked about #mantleheights frequently, so here is a helpful visual to determine space between your mantle and firebox.

Cleaning up the edges and squaring off stone makes all the difference in the world when it comes to having a beautiful finished product.

How I get the cleanest finish using weep screed. The proper way to install- weep screed in conjunction with a drip edge, no grout joints to the weep ridge. The improper way- joints to top and bottom of weep with no drip edge. This is the transition from wood to foundation.
