Happy 4th of July!Happy 4th of July!
Let's talk kick out flashing. Here is a project I'm working on in conjuction with Best Contracting and was just sent these wonderful pictures. This is a common occurrence in the world of Stone Veneer and Stucco. In this case NO kickouts were installed and the end result is some pretty extensive damage. This home isn't even that old. 10-15 years. The kickout diverts water into your spouting system and away from the home when running down a roof line.... Not to worry though, we're going to get this buttoned up and flashed properly! The more you know...
This diagram shows how to integrate #weepscreed into your water barrier system. The importance of the weep is to allow any moisture out at your sill plate transition (where wood meets block/concrete) while also letting air in to keep your walls dry. Not only does weep need installed, a drip edge is also required when continuing your stone onto the foundation. This diverts water over the stone on the foundation. Without the drip installed water will get in behind the stone a...nd in freezing climates may freeze and pop all your stone off the foundation (I've seen as much as 400sq ft sections just sitting on the ground) Failure or improper installation of these critical steps will result in rot/mold and you will never even see it.
CAUTION! I get asked about #mantleheights frequently, so here is a helpful visual to determine space between your mantle and firebox.
This will be quite the home office!

http:// We're Leading With Transparency // We just launched our brand new website! The goal of it is to be very transparent about everything we do. ... From pricing to our design process, we're trying to pull back the curtain so everything important is shown BEFORE calling us. We're more than just a "masonry company" and now it's time to put that on display. I posted the link to the website in the first comment below. I would love any feedback on how you think it turned out. I'm also giving away 2 Rock-it Masonry t shirts and a $100 Visa gift card to 1 lucky winner! To be eligible please: Like the business page. Comment at least your shirt sizes. M/L/XL/2X Share this post. (Make it public so I can see) I will pick the winner on Feb 8th. Thanks and good luck!
Did anybody see the new years show in Dubai? That was incredible! https://youtu.be/gXe8W3lAlcc
Cleaning up the edges and squaring off stone makes all the difference in the world when it comes to having a beautiful finished product.
How I get the cleanest finish using weep screed. The proper way to install- weep screed in conjunction with a drip edge, no grout joints to the weep ridge. The improper way- joints to top and bottom of weep with no drip edge. This is the transition from wood to foundation.

Nothing but respect!
Had some help from my daughter today on this little mailbox facelift.
Played my part in this backyard project.
