Last weekend I had one of the most profound weekends of my life thus far. It was an honor and a privilege to take the 3 day CranioSacral Dissection course through the Upledger Institute. . . . This course revolves around the dissection of tissue that has only ever been frozen, and not preserved in any other way. Therefore, the tissue we experience in class is the closest thing to the living tissue that can we work with. This class offers so much more than just revealing anat...omy. It offers a window into some of the perplexing dualities of life. The beauty, fragility, complexity, strength, and delicate nature of how we are woven together is beyond remarkable. . . . I was able to touch tissue inside the head that I had only ever seen in pictures, or in an isolated plastic 3D form. I held a woman’s heart in my hands, and wept. I had a sacred experience of holding a spinal cord in my hands. . . . I shared this experience with other CranioSacral Therapists that were just as eager to be humbled by the beauty and suffering of the human condition as I was. I am changed. And so are my hands. As I have worked this week, I find myself mentally back in lab, seeing and feeling these tissues as I work with the client on the table.
