According to Action News 6abc Special Reports, GPS enabled dating apps have been used in connection to a spree of violent crimes in Philadelphia, including robbery, physical assault, and luring. Police are warning users of apps such as Grindr, Tinder, Tango, and Skout to use extreme caution before exchanging personal information or agreeing to meet up with a complete stranger through the dating apps. Multiple victims were allegedly blackmailed, forced to hand over hundreds and in one case thousands of dollars, and even then the alleged perpetrator, 26year-old Douglas Spady would physically assault his victims. Philadelphia Police Lieutenant Robert Otto advised those who use any digital form of dating to "use extreme caution when going on this dating site (Grindr) or any other."
