This week for #transformationtuesday we wanted to share a message of mindfulness that we teach in our ARISE curriculum. Resentments, guilt, and shame all serve a purpose as we learn from our mistakes, but focus too much on these things and you will struggle to let go of the past. When we get stuck in the past, it affects both the now, and our future. Our past doesn't have to equal our future, which is why we teach our residents to let go, forgive, self-forgive, learn, and remain grounded in the present!

There are times when all of us forget to stop and recognize all of the achievements that happen along the way as we work towards our goals. Today, for #motivationmonday, we'd love if you took a moment to join us in congratulating our six residents who graduated Phase 1 of our ARISE program last week.

Wishing all the dads and father figures out there a happy Father’s Day!!

Thank you to Lafayette College Dining Services for dropping off extra prepackaged sandwiches, salads, and sides for our day program and shelter residents!! They routinely bring surplus food down to us, and the individually packaged, easy meals are PERFECT for our winter shelter and for day program families. This is really high quality, healthy food and we so appreciate it going to those we serve.

Happy Saturday from all of us at Safe Harbor! We wanted to post a quick thank-you to our neighbors at J & J Maintenance Services for helping to plow us out free of charge this week. They’re one of the contractors that the City has brought in to help with snow removal, so they have been incredibly busy but still took the time to make sure our folks were safe. Very grateful for all of their workers!

A huge thank you to everyone who dropped off and sent us games. We had enough to bring a bunch over for our winter shelter participants as well. You are all truly the best!! It may not seem as significant as it is, but just the fact that our folks see you all taking the time out of your day to make theirs a little brighter shows them that their community believes in them. And that is a very big thing.

A motivational Monday moment to share from today: Observed one of the young men in our winter shelter doing his virtual GED tutoring session with our wonderful volunteer tutor this morning. He's been in and out of our winter shelter program for several years now, and this could be the opportunity that helps him break the cycle. So grateful for all the ways our community shows up for our folks.

After a visit from VALOR Clinic Foundation and their amazing crew of volunteers at their Stand Down event today, our shelter residents and winter shelter participants enjoyed this beautiful meal prepared by one of our meal providers. VALOR came down to distribute warm clothing, boots, and supplies to residents, members of our day program, and folks in our winter shelter, which they do each month. They did so safely outdoors, with everyone masking! One of our female winte...r shelter participants was absolutely thrilled at the new sherpa-lined winter coat she received and has not stopped proudly showing it off. After meeting with the VALOR folks, everyone came inside for this nutrient-packed spread. So grateful for acts of community like this. They are so appreciated

Thanks to this Girl Scout troop who made plastic woven mats and brought hand-painted hope stones for our residents, day program, and winter shelter folks last week We LOVE seeing young people getting involved in their communities. WONDERFUL job girls, and thank you.

Today, December 21st, is the winter solstice and the longest night of the year. It is also the 30th Homeless Persons' Remembrance Day. We take today to remember those beautiful souls we have lost to homelessness. The loss of folks we've worked with, laughed with, and shed tears with over the years weighs heavy on all of us here at Safe Harbor, always. We work to raise others up in their memory, every day. Please join us in remembering all those who have succumbed to the long...est night that is homelessness, and in thanking all those in our community who work to bring light to darkness. To those we've lost, you are loved, you are missed, you matter.

What a world we’d live in....

Hey all! We could GREATLY use gently used towels and winter shoes for our winter shelter folks, as well as light throw blankets (we give multiple, but need smaller ones for laundry). Donations can be dropped off at the white tables in our parking lot, contactlessly, any time other than noon-1pm. You don't have to call ahead! Thank you!!

Safe Harbor staff after completing American Red Cross Adult/Child First Aid/CPR/AED training today. A huge thank you to Elite Tactical Academy - Easton PA in Easton for providing a closed training for just our staff.

Thank you SO MUCH to Peggy and our partners at Aetna Better Health (also one of our Peace Garden sponsors this summer) for their donation of gel sanitizer, notebooks for our ARISE program, water bottles, and flashlights for our residents and day program. they’ve sent us everything from masks to sanitizer to cleaning products during this pandemic, even back when we couldn’t get our hands on these products ourselves. We so appreciate their help in keeping our folks safe.

Thank you to all who have donated toiletries, household supplies and clothing over the past several months. Noon distributions are still going strong. We appreciate you all making it possible for us to support our community through these times in this way

We’d like to take a moment today to say THANK YOU on National PA Appreciation day to the many PAs who serve our clients through our partnership with LVHN’s Street Medicine Team. Street Medicine’s team of PAs and nurses comes to Safe Harbor weekly to provide basic medical care, screenings, and referrals for our folks. They have their very own medical clinic in our Heath and Education Center created during our recent expansion. They’ve helped so many of our residents and day p...rogram participants over the years, and are an absolutely invaluable resource to our staff. You would not believe the incredible things they have been doing behind the scenes in our community during the pandemic. They’ve been working in clinics like ours and doing street rounds in the woods the entire time, despite the risks to themselves. These folks embody service to community. We are so grateful for them please join us in saying thank you!!

Happy Wednesday, Facebook family! We haven't posted a wish list in a while but we do have some needs currently if anyone would be willing to help us by dropping some things off!! We are seeing a lot of individuals and families coming to our noon distribution for supplies to make ends meet during these times and we are trying our best to keep up with those needs. Dollar tree has the following items for $1 or you are welcome to Amazon them to us if that is easier! We are greatl...y in need of the following toiletry items both for our residents and for our noon distributions to the community: Shampoo and conditioner Bathroom Cleaner Soft Scrub Laundry Detergent We are not at all picky about brands -anything helps!! We just ask that when dropping off you avoid the 11am-1pm time frame as it gets quite busy during our community distribution. We also have a day program family that is in need of some clothing for a little girl. She needs size 8-9 fall and winter clothes, including undershirts and thermal shirts, sweatshirts and jeans. She also needs rain and snow boots size 11. Mom is starting work again soon and could use women's work clothing (12-14 pants, size L for shirts and dresses) and shoes (size 8.5-9) as well as T-shirts and sweaters for winter, size L. If you are dropping off for this family, please drop off to the blue office building next to the shelter during and ask for Sarah anytime next week, M-F, 8am 4pm. Thank you all

Safe Harbor residents observed a moment of silence this morning in honor of those lost on 9/11. Sending love to all those hurting today in our community and in our country.

Happy #ThankfulThursday!! Thanks to all who attended the recovery walk this past Saturday, despite the weather!!! This was our fifth annual walk in partnership with Warren County CARES. The walk is an awareness event for recovery and a chance for us to recognize the efforts of our local first responders in administering Narcan and saving lives in our communities. Two sides of the walk from Easton and Pburg meet together on the Free Bridge to toss a flower in memory of those w...e have lost to substance use disorders. The unfortunate truth is that the social isolation that helps slow the spread of COVID-19 can have very negative ramifications on the mental health and sobriety of those in recovery. It takes a community pulling together in the same direction to ensure that we are able to give as many individuals as possible a chance at long-term recovery. A big thanks to our local first responders who administered life-saving Narcan in our communities this year! Thank you to all who came. We look forward to seeing you next year!

It’s SEPTEMBER (How?? When did that happen??) and our fifth Peace Garden season is nearing its end. Our sunflowers, however, are in full bloom! Another huge thanks to Aetna Better Health, and Bayer America’s Farmers Grow Communities for being our wonderful garden sponsors this year!!!
