"Chalfont Day" is the anniversary of our lil historic Victorian town from around 1870. Daytime there was 5k family race and in the evening we set up a salon booth to meet some potential new salon guests. In the 1990's our own Entrepreneur/salon/beauty Acadamy owner ,Dean Sulimay had been competed internationally in men women's hair fashion winning many awards. In 1991-2 he used this familiar model(his now wife and cosalon owner, Kelly Sulimay, for national hair competitions and also for magazine ads. (Bottom left pic(black &white was a full page Keune product modeling ad in 1991.) We are so lucky to have Dean as a mentor at our salon. He has inspired hundreds of stylists ...in his career to look at hair as an art. He studied all over the world and continually always will. In the late 1980's traveled Europe working but settled and lived in Bologna,Italy for a couple years. Even to this present day Dean will say how hairdressers must continually educate and be open to creatively thinking outside of the normal salon routine. His passion has been helping anyone grow but only if he sees that fire within them. Dean will always mention and thank his hair mentor Micheal Della Penna. Micheal della penna was the only American to win gold for both men and women's artistic hair for the USA Artistic Hair Olympics. (Yes it exists since the 1920's) Micheal became the coach for the USA Junior Olympic team and they took gold. He also was asked to coach the Japan team and even the Russian teams. Currently micheal is still doing hair in his salon in St Pete. FL. Recently he has became a fashion designer and for years has been a well known sought out artist (oil on canvas) Micheal actually was one owners of the barbering school that Kelly Sulimay attended. Kelly's moment of fame?? Winning a men's fashion competition against Micheal and she won by a single point. But hey, she is married to a man that was mentored by the best!
