The weather's hot, and everyone wants to swim... however, both a zoning permit and a building permit are required to install pretty much every swimming pool. There are several reasons for this; (1) we have to do storm water calculations and permitting for the impervious surfaces, and (2) a pool is an improvement on the property, and (3) water and electricity are not a great mix, so there are stringent electrical requirements, and (4) drowning is the second-leading cause of juvenile accidental death, so fencing is required. If you installed a pool recently and weren't aware of these requirements, we can rectify it with your cooperation. Give our friendly Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer a call at the Township Office, 814-432-3372, and he will work with you to resolve any issues.

Albert "Chip" Abramovic Venango County Commissioner Yesterday at 7:14 AM Shared with Public If there is a threat of shutting down a second time, maybe this time we try something different. Maybe we keep all of our small businesses and restaurants open which already shut down once, and close the commercial/big box stores which were never shut down. Maybe if we spread people out with many options to go to instead of just a few it will be an easier way to track and diagnose. ...Maybe this time we keep grass root American business open and give the commercial stores their turn to shut down. Maybe if we shut down liquor stores to the public, but let our bars and restaurants sell full bottles to customers to help make up since they were the last entities to open. Maybe people will go to our small markets and butcher shops and get fresh meat and produce. Maybe if one doesn’t want to go to a restaurant they can shop small, get fresh food, and make dinner. Maybe wearing a mask for a short time in public might slow the spread, I’m not an expert but it might not hurt to try if it helps our businesses. Maybe we can relive how small town America was built. Maybe we should rethink how we close down. Our communities are all unique because of our small business, our towns thrive by our small business culture. If we lose our small businesses we lose our identities and then become nothing more than a big box store. I’m sure some might think this is crazy, but it’s very frustrating when small business owners are struggling to survive and you drive by huge parking lots without any empty spots. Especially when that revenue leaves our communities while small business revenue stays here. I hope this threat isn’t real and just something I lay awake and think about. But how can we improve, what we can do better, what mistakes might have been made the first time, so we do not repeat them. Nothing is perfect but we should have learned something from March, April, May. Wouldn’t it be an amazing world if we admitted to our mistakes made and learn from them so we don’t repeat them. Maybe if we all worked together, maybe we’d get a lot more done? Losing our small businesses and our identity is something we cannot let happen. Thank you See more

Congratulations to our residents and a BIG thank you as well. Our Township current response rate for the 2020 Census is 70.3%. This is vitally important for our Township, County and State to make sure we receive all the funding we are entitled too. With funding from other sources, we are able to keep our Township taxes as low as possible. Township tax rate is currently 1.84 mills which means for every $1,000.00 of accessed value of your home, the tax is only $1.84.

Notice by R. Lee James, our State Representative. Legislative Update Monday, June 15, 2020 The latest news from the State Capitol House, Senate Vote to End COVID-19 Emergency Declaration... To start getting Pennsylvania’s economy fully open, the state House and Senate have voted to fully terminate the governor’s COVID-19 emergency declaration that has resulted in a prolonged shutdown of the state’s businesses and done severe damage to the lives of millions of Pennsylvanians. House Resolution 836 passed the House in a bipartisan vote of 121-81 just days after the governor extended his emergency declaration by ANOTHER 90 days. Although he is required to issue an executive order or proclamation ending the state of disaster emergency upon passage of our concurrent resolution, the governor is refusing to follow the law. And now it’s headed to court, where I hope it is reviewed and resolved quickly. With the governor still operating under the status quo meaning he is still imposing his red-yellow-green guidance and restrictions across the Commonwealth business owners, unemployed workers and all Pennsylvanians have been put on hold with more questions than answers about what we do now. While we work to expeditiously get a court ruling on the issue, we are also assessing the various COVID-19-related regulatory changes, executive orders and other actions taken during the last three months to determine whether any legislative changes are necessary to protect people who are struggling financially as a result of the mitigation efforts. No one wanted to get to this point. The House has tried many, many times to engage the governor and work with him to create a path forward through this pandemic, but he has refused to work together and continues to act unilaterally, without regard for the General Assembly and the people we represent. You sent me to Harrisburg to make sure your voice is being heard, and I am doing everything I can to make that happen.

Senate Votes to End Disaster Resolution, Implement Legislative Oversight Stressing that Governor Wolf’s extended lockdown of Pennsylvania hurt families and did irreparable harm to employers, the Senate this week voted to end the statewide shutdown and provide for greater legislative oversight in the future. On Tuesday, the Senate approved House Resolution 836, which terminates the Governor’s executive order that was issued on March 6 and renewed on June 3. The Governor used t...he emergency declaration to change and suspend state laws and spend state and federal taxpayer dollars without the approval of the General Assembly. On Wednesday, the Senate approved Senate Bill 1166, which would amend the state Constitution to require legislative approval of future emergency disaster proclamations beyond 30 days.
