A very wise Teal Tuesday thought for a Tuesday that feels like a Monday #tealtuesday #ovariancancer

This week’s Sandy Sprint Teal Spotlight team is Llacer’s Racers, a veteran team of the Sandy Sprints over the years. Team Llacer’s Racers first heard about the event through social media and decided to start a team. They have participated in the Sandy Sprint Philly in the past. They enjoy the camaraderie at the events, being together with friends, family and other survivors. And, at the Philly race in particular, they love to see the dogs dressed up as superheroes, since ...that is the theme of the Philly race. Team Llacer’s Racers has an important reason to be involved. Erika Llacer was diagnosed with Stage 1C Ovarian Cancer in September 2016, and went through chemotherapy until February of 2017. Erika says, I would like to do whatever I can to raise money so more research can be done to prevent ovarian cancer and help develop early detection procedures. Llacer’s Racers is made up of Erika’s family, her husband, her parents, her in-laws, and friends. The teammates willingly signed up when Erika reached out, as they all want to support her and the mission of Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation. The team uses email and Facebook to reach out to others to potentially participate, fundraise, and spread the word about the event. The response is always very positive, and they have successfully raised a few thousand dollars in the past with their fundraising efforts. For the Sandy Sprint Sea Isle on July 24th, Llacer’s Racers will be about 10 people strong. Like many of us, they are looking forward to being together in person. It will be great to be amongst other survivors, their friends and families, walking and running for ovarian cancer awareness and raising funds for research. For more information about the team and the Sandy Sprint Sea Isle City, visit http://wesupport.sandyovarian.org/seaislesprint #ovariancancer #seaislesprint #5k

This week we are thrilled to share the story of veteran Sandy Sprint team, Sue’s Rockstars, led by captain Sue Sears. Sue’s Rockstars have participated in a number of races over the years, in Philadelphia, Sea Isle and virtually. Sue Sears first learned about the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation through her niece Colleen Rutecki, who played softball at a SROCF fundraising event. Like many of our teams, Sue’s Rockstars has a personal reason for being involved with ...the Sandy Sprint events. Sue was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in October 2008. Her reason for forming a team is to raise awareness of this disease, the 5th leading cause of death in women. Sue’s Rockstars is composed of family and friends. The team plans to use email, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to help fundraise and recruit a few more teammates. Team captain and ovarian cancer survivor, Sue Sears, says this about her commitment to helping SROCF raise awareness and find a cure for ovarian cancer, I feel very grateful that I have survived for 12 12 years. It has given me a purpose. It gave me a platform from which to educate women of all ages about the symptoms and risk factors for ovarian cancer. Therefore, by paying attention to their bodies they can get this disease diagnosed earlier when there is a greater chance of survival. Additionally, I am part of a program called Survivors Teaching Students where I have the opportunity to tell my personal story to medical students and nurse practitioners in local teaching hospitals about the symptoms of ovarian cancer so they can pay closer attention to what their patients are reporting and then include ovarian cancer in their diagnoses differentials. Join us by registering at http://wesupport.sandyovarian.org/seaislesprint to support awareness and research for ovarian cancer. We hope to see you Saturday, July 24 in Sea Isle!

This year, we stayed apart so we could stay healthy and safe. In many ways, we were more unified than ever before. Even in 2020, progress was still made. It is in difficult times that we lean on and support one another. No matter what’s in store in the next few months and year ahead, we know that we’re stronger together. Happy New Year #happynewyear #newyear #ovariancancer
