In 1858, the crossroads town of Gettysburg was finally connected to the outside world via railroad. During the battle in 1863, this connection was severed by the Confederates, preventing supplies from being brought in a wounded soldiers from being evacuated. Only through the diligent work of U.S. Military Railroads Chief of Construction and former Gettysburg resident Herman Haupt was this vital artery repaired within days of the battle. Join Pete Miele as he explores this important post-battle story.
Join Peter Miele, Executive Director, Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center and Hilda Koontz as they examine the immediate and lasting effects from the unseen wounds of the Civil War experience. Hilda Koontz holds an MA in Counseling Psychology from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul MN and devoted more than 20 years of her professional career to counseling. She is a former reviewer for Consulting Psychologist Press and a member of the American Counseling Associati...on. Since 2001, she has been a frequent speaker for the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, the Little Big Horn Associates and for numerous historical organizations, including the Civil War Round Tables of Chicago and St. Louis. Research Roundtables are special, free events which promise to shed new light on various topics of the Civil War. Plenty of time will be given to audience questions and comments.
