Good Morning SCN family. As I am sure you all are as well, I have been lamenting the events that took place in our nation's capital yesterday. The division and divisiveness is certainly no surprise to any. The emotional tension that has been building in our country has reared its ugly head once again. And we all are sad, angry, frustrated, & disappointed. I could go on...... Certainly, lots of questions and continued uncertainty fill our hearts and minds. As the people o...f God, we all have a responsibility given to us by God himself to reflect the true character of Jesus understood in the Gospels. No doubt there is a time and place to stand up for injustice on our own behalf and certainly and maybe even more importantly for others, especially, those who can't speak up for themselves. But in our defense of what is right and wrong, we can never lose sight of whose we are! Church, we have a great opportunity to reflect Hope, Love, and Grace to those who find themselves at the end of knowing how to cope with all of the chaos, sickness, and divisions that surround us. Can I encourage us all once again to take our eyes off of the problems, and even off all that we deem to be good and follow the instructions relayed to us by the Prophet Isaiah (43:18-19) But forget all that it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. God has promised to make a pathway through the wilderness, the chaos, the uncertainties, the hardships, the difficulties, the brokenness, etc... The way we find our pathway forward is by focusing our eyes, ears, and hearts on the Lord. The words of the Psalmist seem so fitting here: Psalm 121:1-2ff I look up to the mountains does my help come from there? 2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! The greatest gift we can give those around us is for them to see us forsaking all else so that we can Look up to God himself for our help and his instruction in times like these. Things can be better and the promise to us is that they will be better when we turn to the Lord without hesitation and make it a habit to return to him regularly. May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be a pleasing offering to You, o Lord! And may they encourage those around us to seek you, first and only, for the peace and hope they so desperately need. -Pastor Bill
