Imagine that you are the parent of a young child. You get a phone call from a friend who tells you that they have nominated your child for membership in a 110 year old, private voluntary organization that teaches children duty to God and country, service to others, and personal growth and achievement. They tell you that the program is outdoor based and years long, but successful graduates routinely receive preference in college admissions, and automatically get a one rank boost from every branch of the military. In fact, they tell you that a very high percentage of graduates are contained within every class of our national military academies.
