Parents frequently tell me, he’s just too lazy when they bring their young child in for a comprehensive language and speech evaluation. Let’s stop this myth, ...no child is too lazy to talk! If they aren’t speaking or are difficult to understand, they should be assessed by a speech language pathologist who can adequately determine what’s going on and can create an individualized plan of care for them if needed. This job is tough! Try planning therapy for 50+ students, write IEPs, complete assessments, make visuals, write goals, find engaging resources for articulation,... language, fluency, social skills, AAC, attend IEP meetings, and so many more skills. Wouldn't trade my job for the , we do so much more than "play all day". #slpeeps See more

Rules to implement the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)the federal public education law enacted last year to replace No Child Left Behindtook effect Jan. 30,... and many of the changes could potentially affect school-based audiologists and speech-language pathologists. ESSA’s most significant change puts states and local districts in charge of decisions about student testing and accountability for students’ academic progress. It also eliminates the previous construct of adequate yearly progress toward 100-percent proficiency in certain subjects. It’s important to note that these final regulations may change under the new presidential administration and Congress. Resolutions of disapproval for ESSA accountability and teacher preparation rules have been filed in the House and the Senate under the Congressional Review Act. Read on to learn more. See more
