One of our more recent projects. We were tasked with machining these flanges from heat treated 17-4 Stainless and they came out great. The end user joins them with a wound carbon fiber tube which we then rechuck to drill 48 rivet holes around each end (shown in the last few pics) These are drive shafts that weigh 9 pounds. 2 pounds of carbon fiber, 7 pounds of stainless. ... Each shaft will handle 6,000 horsepower in a pumping application. They are designed to withstand more than 10,000 horsepower.
