This photo, taken this morning, is the intersection two blocks away from the Tree of Life. This is where I was 2 years ago the morning the horrific, evil massacre was happening. I was on my way to see my mother, who lives a couple of blocks away. A black SUV, sirens blaring, sped past me. As I turned right on Wilkins Ave, I saw throngs of police sirens flashing around Shady Ave. I had no idea what was happening. Maybe a bad car accident, I thought. I went to my mother’...s and called my wife. She was supposed to pick my daughter from ballet at noon in Squirrel Hill, and I warned that there was something going on and that she should avoid Shady Ave. I checked on Twitter to see if there was an accident report, and that’s when it all hit. 2 years later, I stop at this same light remembering where I was when 11 cherished members of our community lost their lives because of a senseless, hateful individual and wishing comfort to their loved ones whose grief I cannot possibly comprehend. And as we live in difficult times, many words can describe what’s desperately needed now from our leaders to rebuild our community so that hate no longer rears its ugly head, one word stands out: Compassion. #pittsburgh #pghfood #pittsburghstrong #strongerthanhate #compassion #voteblue2020
