The Montgomery County Commissioners 2021 $455 million budget shows a 5% tax increase. The County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Valerie Arkoosh said Thursday that the last time officials raised real estate taxes was in 2017. Speaking in the hearing's two sessions, Arkoosh underscored the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on the local government’s finances. That increase equates to $29 more per year for the average homeowner, according to Arkoosh. Arkoosh also propose...d a real estate tax deferral program, which aimed to assist eligible property owners during these difficult times. It would apply to homeowners 65 years of age or older who have an annual household income of $35,000 or less, including 50 percent of social security income, according to a county spokesperson. All taxes deferred under this program are secured by a real estate tax lien, annually and deferred for collection until the property is sold, the owners are no longer the sole residents, or the property is transferred through will or intestacy, a county spokesperson said. A vote for the program is expected to take place (at 10:00 am) on Dec. 17 along with the budget vote.

I am so embarrassed - I got 2 wrong. Let me know if you do better! Happy Independence Day. Tax Bills are on the Way!
This year, July 4th (the legal public holiday for Independence Day) falls on a Saturday. Post Offices will be closed and there will be no mail or package deliveries. The tax bills for the School District of Springfield Township are scheduled to be mailed on or about July 1st and therefore should arrive in mailboxes later this week. Saturday is a mail holiday, so if it doesn't arrive by Friday, you should get it early next week. Please wait until after July 25th to Email me, if you have not received your bill by then.. The Springfield Township School Board voted last week on the new millage and Homestead Exemption, as well as the due dates for payment. The bills will be mailed soon. They should be in your mailbox in early July. To ease the economic impact of the current crises on School District taxpayers, the Springfield Township School Board extended the 2% discount to September 30, 2020 for all taxpayers who pay their 2020-2021 real estate taxes in full by that date. The Board also dela...ys the imposition of the 10% penalty until December 15, 2020. Tax Bills paid in full from October 1st to December 14th (between the end of the extended discount period and the beginning of the delayed penalty period) shall be for the face amount of the tax notice. For those taxpayers who choose to pay their 2020-2021 School taxes using the installment plan, the payment deadlines remain July 31, September 30, and November 30. Any 2020-2021 installment payments that remain unpaid on December 15, 2020, shall be assessed a 10% penalty on the balance of all payments owed. This penalty amount and all overdue installment payments shall be collected by the Tax Collector on or before December 31, 2020. The 1st installment MUST be paid on or before July 31, 2020 to be eligible to use the installment plan. When the 1st Installment is paid on time, you are committed to using the installment plan and no discount is allowed. Due to Covid-19, there will be NO in person tax collection hours for the remainder of 2020. For the acceptable, low or no contact ways to pay, and more detailed information, please refer to the insert that is included with the tax bill. Changes shall only apply to 2020-2021 school year taxes.
The property tax bills for the School District of Springfield Township are scheduled to be mailed in early July. The millage nor the Homestead amount nor the due dates have been confirmed yet. There will be changes this year due to Covid-19. The School Board has not voted on the new budget - yet. When they do, I can then prepare the file needed to process the bills. Hopefully, they will be mailed on time. Please be patient. Please wait until after July 25th to contact me if ...you have not received a bill. This year has been crazy busy. Things have been changing on an almost daily basis. There has been legislation passed regarding payment of taxes as recently as last week, and there is still some pending legislation. At the end of March and again at the end of May, the due dates for the County/Township bills were extended. The current bill is due on or before July 31st. A 10% penalty will not be added to unpaid bills until August 1st (usually June 1st). Due to the changes, I have over 250 incorrect payments to straighten out or for which refunds need to be issued, and that number grows every day. If your payment was not processed, it is because you paid the wrong amount (too much!!). It is also why receipts have not been sent yet. I have never been busier and due to the unprecedented circumstances, there is a lot of extra work this year.
