ST MARY's COOPERATIVE? It appears St Marys Greek Catholic/ aka St Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church members formed a "cooperative", sometime prior to 1891. They were "bankers for the POLES and HUNGARIANS", operated a delivery wagon pulled by an animal team; they purchased land on FERN ST and built a grocery store/ a facility with kitchen apparatus/ and buildings that became housing for nuns and the priest; one building is currently rented out to a family. Attached items includ...e: 8/06/1891 re: purchase of land/ erection of buildings/ grocery store. 11/1892 - delivery wagon team ran off. 2/1896 - lawsuit accused manager of embezzling $20,000. The COOPERATIVE is in receivership and selling off real estate and goods. June 1896 - John Grula had been running the Cooperative's grocery store. January 1899 - Auditors - Michael Potochney and Michael Oleyar. See more
